How many Hours do you work each week?

I imagine most people work a solid 40, but what about the guys that run a business, what amount of hours does it take anymore?

With family its hard to divide up what amount of time goes where...anyone else ?

My goal of being a millionaire is realistic but at what cost? I am only doing it because I can`t play sports anymore, money isn`t what motivates me anyway, its the drive to reach a goal...Of course we all need money but at what cost, when its all said and done the money we have isn`t going to mean much, is spending time with family more important than working 60-70 hours?

Spending time with family and friends is far more important than working 60-70 hours a week no matter how much you make. After one purchases all the things that may have been desired, they only then realize that the material possessions were of little value and the time lost can never be recovered. Ask yourself this simple question. If you lost all that you own tomorrow, can you begin again and rebuild? Now, if you lost your family tomorrow, heaven forbid, can you get them back? The answer should be clear. Over time money has no longer become an issue for me and the material possessions I have gathered through my lifetime have very little significance, but, if I was to lose my wife, who I love dearly, I would find life extremely empty. Just my thoughts.

I don't have kids at home now, just the long suffering SheBar (together 7+ years).

My principal occupation is a residential gardening service that takes about 40-45 hours per week this time of year and about 30-35 during Nov-Feb.

Combined with my Spousal Unit's solid base income from the corporate gig, I thus have 20-25 hours per week to do volunteer non-profit work, most of it in the field of drug education and drug policy education.

In between all of that we try and mix in 15-20 hours a week for sports capping and investing. I love the mental exercise that sports capping demands and it's a good break from the real J.O.B. and my educational work.

Good news is that a couple of the orgs that I've been donating time to for the past five years may well be able to pay me for some of my work beginning later this year. That would allow me to do a bit less gardening and have more time for education work, which is more rewarding in terms of how it changes people and the world in general.

There was a speaker on CNBC today that said if your not spending at least 50-55% of your time with your family..............you are a LOSER!!!

Oldman and Fish, I agree with everything both of you say. If you have kids, spend time with them because before you know it they are grown up and out on there own and you stop and say wow, where did the time go. $$$$$ are nice but like Oldman said it can be replaced, people can not be replaced.

First off I agree nothing is more important than your kids....I have been a single parent since my daughter was one yr old...I raised her as the primary parent 5 nights per week, it was not easy...I wish I had her everyday, and now that she is in school I only have her 3 nights during school, and 4 in the summer...I wouldn`t change a thing as far as the amount of time I have given up to raise my daughter...I also have a business that gets neglected because of this...I joke around alot but nothing is more important to me than my daughter, I have learned more in her 6 years about life than I learned the previous 29....
At the same time I have mixed feelings about how much time I should spend growing my business(which needs alot of time and effort) That was the point of my post, how much time should be spent working and how much time on family...The bottom line is I am handcuffed and can only do so much as a single parent trying to be a fulltime dad and have some assemblance of a life...Starting to get a little older makes one think about all this stuff more than ever...

6 days, 48 hours. Then add about 6 hours total in commute time, which I consider work time in a way. 54 total not taking into account possible overtime which is a dying thing at the kind of work I do.

I work 12-18 hours a day, seven days a week, and have been known to go on binges of 24-36 hours straight at a time. But the figures can be misleading: I'm working right now, but find time to fûck off around here and look for pics and naked chicks and Journeyman posts to read.

I have a lot of flexibility in my life, the price of which is that I maintain my businesses in such a manner that they are a 24/7 gig. This works though, because while I am pretty much "always on the clock" I take breaks every couple of hours to work out, go see a movie, spend time with my family, sleep, get laid, whatever, and I hardly feel like a person who logs the sort of hours that I do.

I know people with regular 40-hour day jobs that don't get out as much as I do, that don't spend as much time with their family, that don't have time or energy to exercise, etc. which makes me feel like my system is a good deal because I get 10x as much done as an average person yet take good care of myself, have a lot of fun, spend time being a father etc.

Jman, im a convenience store owner (also have some real estate), i am at my store about 70hrs per week, im there from 4:30 am until about lunch 7 days per week (with the exception of church on sunday).. then i drop back in during the evening, sometimes for as much as a couple of hours, this after hitting the gym.. But i dont think i could go back to the rat race of a 40hr week, because over half the time that im there, im BS'ing about sports with a customer..

What kind of business are you growing, Jman..

At my current JOB, it is a 35 hour work week, but withih the last 2 months my wife started a business (which means i did too) and she also is learning another business and I am learning another business and we have 3 kids...I try to balance it out as best I can. I am very happy with our life and will be even happier if our plans come together.
