Never really counted, but since getting this Fitbit HR, it shows you how much sleep you get, how many times you are kind of up during the night, etc..

6.5 Hours for me

I have pretty severe sleeping problems. Take double dose of Zquil every night plus max dose of Melatonin. Have many, many days when I'm trying to function at work on 0-2 hours sleep. It definitely affects all areas of life. If I have something important to do the next day I can guarantee a sleepless night. I have sleep paralysis as well which doesn't help anything.

If I had to put it at an average I'd say 3 hours a night.

Maybe 6 hours. I don't trust the fitbit thing. All that really detects is arm movement. You could be wide awake with your arm completely still.

I took a sleep apnea study at home where they send you a mask. I have sleep apnea and need a mask to supposedly sleep well. Have never used it though.

I used to sleep 4-6 hours. Now I sleep about 7-8. I take melatonin now an hour before bedtime and I sleep a little better.

I have sleep a paralysis too. The less sleep you get the more often you'll have episodes, plus on little sleep they can be more intense. At least they were in my case. I used to drink a ton of energy drinks, which would make it harder to sleep at night, then in the morning I'd drink even more energy drinks because I was even more tired, and the cycle ended up with less and less sleep. I don't drink as many energy drinks now, but I also don't have stressful job anymore.

If you are having sleep problems that arent related to sleep apnea, then stop putting shit in your body. Eat and drink healthy. Cut out shit like soda and energy drinks. Start exercising. Get a good workout routine of cardio and resistance training. Start winding down an hour before you plan on turning the lights out. Get a routine going. Maybe thats reading a book. Watching the nightly news while you are in bed, etc. Taking natural supplements like melatonin can help as well.

It wont happen overnight, but eventually most will start seeing a big difference in the amount of sleep they are able to get per night.

That's what worked for me. Started out walking the dog every morning which gradually turned into a 5 mile run with the dog. I feel for guys that are working 10-12 hour days in high stress positions and have children to top it off. That used to be me and it was tough to make time for your health.
