First they laughed when it was claimed that Obama had his friend Angela Merkel's phone tapped. Then it turned out to be true. Now some laugh at Trump's claims...

Am I thinking this through correctly?

So Obama's gamble was that the Dems could entrap Trump with something juicy on his campaign and therefore ensure Hillary's victory. All the while with the understanding that if Hillary won none of this would ever get disclosed. Is that right?

Secondarily, if there was real dirt disclosing collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia to influence the outcome of the election, that dirt would be subtantiated already because of this loathsome Obama tactic. I mean this could work in Trump's favor to put the Trump/Russian connection in the rear view mirror as clearly fake news. No?

During the summer last year, the Obama administration filed a request with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) to monitor communications involving Trump and several advisers but the request was denied, according to Heat Street former editor, Louise Mensch.

Just a day before the 2016 election, Mensch reported that 'sources with links to the counter-intelligence community' confirmed that a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) had granted a FISA court warrant in October to monitor activities in Trump tower.

On Wednesday, a New York Times report said White House officials took efforts in the closing days of the Obama administration to analyze and spread information about Russian election interference, driven by a concern that the material might get buried by Trump.

Intelligence agencies rushed to analyze raw intelligence material about Russia connections, going over months-old material as the extent and possible motives of what the agencies say is Russian election hacking emerged.

Officials made efforts to ask specific questions at intelligence briefings as a way to get the information into the record and be archived for examination later.

In January, American law enforcement and intelligence agencies examined intercepted communications and financial transactions as part of a broad investigation into possible links between Russian officials and associates of Trump, according to the Times.

The FBI led the investigations, aided by the National Security Agency, and the Treasury Department's financial crimes unit.

Sure looks that way. If Trump doesn't pursue this and hold Obama accountable I'll be pissed.

Trump better be right on this one. This is one of the most serious accusations ever. If Trump turns out to be wrong he's going to pay a heavy political price.

I agree. It's not like tweeting "Your momma goes down on Egyptians."
Just by the seriousness of the allegation I believe Trump already
has the information in hand. If he doesn't I will concede he's a
certifiable lunatic.

The best way, sit on it. Give Obama and all his cronies time to deny everything . Once the denials are on record.Bingo produce the evidence.

This will be a very good test of Trump's competence. Either he will make sure those involved are prosecuted, or he'll show the world he is incapable of upholding our laws

No he wont. He can literally say (or even do) anything he wants and his supporters will gloss over it.

Did Donald Trump's accusations of Barack Obama 'wiretapping' stem from news report by Louise Mensch?

4 MARCH 2017 • 9:33PM

Early on Saturday morning President Donald Trump launched a Twitter tirade against his predecessor Barack Obama, accusing him of having ordered wire tapping at Trump Tower in New York.

Amid speculation over the origin of the allegations it emerged that they may stem back to an exclusive report by the British independent journalist, novelist, and former Conservative MP for Corby, Louise Mensch, an opponent of Mr Trump.

On Nov 7, Mrs Mensch, who now lives in New York, published an article on the libertarian website Heat Street.

Citing two counter-intelligence sources it suggested a warrant had been issued to the FBI by a secret court to investigate whether there had been communications between a computer server at Trump Tower and two Russian banks.

The warrant was reported to have been granted under the Foreign intelligence Surveillance Act, which allows a clandestine court to authorise electronic surveillance in cases involving agents of foreign powers.

On Friday, months later, the report was cited at the start of a lengthy article on Breitbart News, the website of which White House chief strategist Steve Bannon used to be executive chairman.

I recommend following @LouiseMensch - because the story breaking all over Twitter has been sitting on her timeline for some time.

The Breitbart article also gave a detailed rundown of an argument made on Thursday night by Mark Levin, one of the leading conservative talk radio hosts in America.

In his lengthy analysis the influential Levin told his seven million listeners: "The question is - was Obama surveilling top Trump campaign officials during the election?
"We absolutely know this is true. The FBI did a preliminary criminal investigation based on a potential connection between a server in Trump Tower and a couple of Russian banks.

"That turned out to be a dry hole, but one of the most outrageous things I've ever seen...totally uncovered by the media."

According to the Washington Post the Breitbart News article, referencing the work of Mrs Mensch and Levin, was circulating among White House aides on Friday.

Last month Mr Trump referred in a speech to "what's happening last night in Sweden". He later clarified that he was making reference to a story broadcast the previous night on Fox News about Sweden and immigration.
