I am talking in gambling terms. (not banging your head off the wall 50 times terms)

How long do you take off? Or do you shut it down? Just curious. My NCAA picks havent been bad (not good either) but my NHL and NBA have been worse than brutal. NHL season is over for me until the Playoffs.
I enjoy the wagering and am not being pummelled to the point of having no $ ,but I do have a significant amount less $ than I did 2 weeks ago.

Always irritating to get pummeled down especially at this time of the year when baseball is ready to start and the postseasons are coming right up.

well I guess everyone's "pummeling" comes in different figures....in my case if I lose 3 in a row I take 1-2 weeks off...but I do not bet everyday so maybe my example is not good for your question

Natrually it depends on your bankroll, if you still have money to gamble reduce your bet size to the minimum. Then proceed with caution using sound money management to increase wager size only if you can turn it around. In this case baseball might be a good way to start fresh, CBB is essentially over, and as you say NBA, and NHL have been brutal. Stick to what you do best, and nurse your way back. Easy does it when in a losing steak.

The main thing here to do is HAVE A PLAN IN PLACE as to what your going to do before it happens.

At all costs, AVOID GOING ON TILT AND HAVING a ...... "I DONT CARE ATTITUDE".

Sportsbooks thrive on individuals on tilt.

Remember, you are not in this as a daily, weekly, or even yearly venture.

A SUCCESSFUL GAMBLER THINKS in terms of LIFETIME achievement.

I cannot stress this enough.......please take this advice to heart.

Either cut your bets back in half or take a break until your head is clear. this may also help stop the hex that the "gambling gods" have over you during a losing streak. May sound funny, but it works.

I only blame losing on the "gambling gods" if I do something to make em mad. For example yelling out "I shoulda bet more on this game" midway through the 2nd half.

I have a .38 special with a rusty barrel from being in my mouth so many times...
I haven't made a bet since mid Feb.
Time off has done me good,I spent the last 3 weeks preparing for baseball...I'm going in with a modest plan and sticking to it.
Time off gives you a whole new perspective.

I keep my betting unit exactly the same regardless of the " streak " I am on.

I used to cut my bets in half when I was on a losing streak. Unfortunately, when I started winning again I had to win twice as many games to get back to even because I was only betting half units.

Also, no one can predict how long a streak will last. The key is to bet a small enough unit ( % of total bankroll ) so you can weather the storm. I am a good handicapper and I fully expect to have 4-5 losing months year in and year out.

Focus on the long term and if you have a good system or handicapping skills you will make money. I do not chase, double up or do anything stupid that will risk blowing my bankroll. When I am doing poorly, I keep using my same system knowing that over time I will be ahead. My motto is " set it and forget it" This also helps to take the emotion out of my betting habits.

Having given back a major chunk of the last 11 days winnings over this past weekend, I can tell you that I went to the gym for a workout and steamroom, went to eat & the theater, and enjoyed company..completely put gambling out of your mind, and do something that recharges you.

You just have to be realistic, 70% to the plus or minus, is eventually going to plane back out to 55 thru 60 percent long haul, for anyone that caps long term or plays volume.

Don't get as upset over it as many do, it will prevent you from the free flow needed to win..pressing equals losing..I did yesterday, liking nothing.

I have always been a streaker by nature, usually have about a 60% ratio of good ones to bad ones each year(usually 4 to 6 plus, over 2 to 3 minus).

For example, I recently began to try contributing on the Hoops Forum for the tourney, and started out 24-9, yet now have lost 9 straight(2 low limit womens hoops) for the first bad 10 game stretch since last baseball season, yet still 24-18 posted for .571%, and as a follower have made out even a lil' better than own picks here, on a few late plays at post time.

It's a marathon, not a race, as Fishhead noted, if you aim for the long haul, you pull up when going bad..there's always another day.

Don't ride the highs too high, nor the lows too low!
