New to sports betting. I'm assuming I probably won't get a ton of information here, but I figured I'd ask (I understand why successful bettors wouldn't want to give any real info away and that's fine).

I was just wondering what methods are used to cap games. I've been lurking here for a while now while trying to figure out my own system, and I feel like my head is going to explode.

-Do you spend long periods of time methodically breaking down games?
-Do you have databases of years of advanced statistics?
-Do you look for trends with the movement of lines in correlation with public action?
-Do you look at each game as situational?
-Do you follow the sport closely and watch a lot of tape?
-Do you have software that runs simulations?
-Other/all of the above?

I appreciate any info I get, and thank anyone in advance. I'm frustrated, but I'll keep at it and work hard. Just thought I would post this to see if anyone gives any valuable info! Thanks guys.

Probably depends on how much you are waging and how much your time is worth..
I use scoresandodds and look at past history for pitchers. Damn sure not looking at tape LOL

regardless of what method you use - money management is most important!

Fade the public everyday and all day.....you will win...

This used to work but not anymore, as the public is much sharper than they used to be just a few years ago. Now fade the public and you will probably hit about 51% when laying 11/10, thus losing money.

Agree!! I've researched this before at the end of the day it's around 50/50 both sides.....you'd be surprised how many angles the house has covered for people trying to play all dogs or all road favs or all away dogs etc. The best you will do is maybe low 50% range which equals to very little profit unless you're wagering thousands per play. Sports wagering is tough period!! It does take many years of going through ups and downs to find angles to win consistently. My best advice is to try and wager LESS games as possible per day stick to one or two angles that show positive results. Some days nothing may show so pass the day be discipline don't chase or force anything. This will increase your chances of coming out + for the week
