How do I find someone and their employer

I found out an old roommate of mine from school is doing well and owes me more than $3000 in rent money.

I don't think I will be able to collect, but I understand he is doing pretty well and living in Denver, wanted to find out who his employer is.

Anyone know how I can track this information. Don't know his social or any other pertinent information.

He shared an apartment and he had to leave school, I told him find someone else to live in the apartment, he never did. I told him pay me when you get on your feet. I knew he had some financial hardships. So, after 5 years, I told you can pay me $250 and pay it over the course of a year, if not pay $100 a month and then eventually pay it off. I offered him every possible option.

Now, I find out he bought a $500K house and I he still has the same email from 5 years ago and says to me he doesn't have the money right now and can't afford it.

Well, fuck him. I know he has a Series 6, 7, 67 licenses. I plan to contact his employer and let the chips fall where they may.

If the guy was struggling to make ends meet and was having a hard time, I would let it go, but I have made every possible concession including paying the other half of the rent and saving his credit in the process. I could have paid my share of the rent and moved into another apartment and he would have been stuck with it on his credit as an outstanding debt.

11 years is sufficent to pay of $3K. If he doesn't to pay it, he will suffer the consequences of what comes his way.

If you don't have a judgment and it's past the SOL then what leverage do you have, aside from trying to embarrass him and make his life miserable? If you go that route, be careful, you could set yourself up for a lawsuit.

Let him sue me. I don't think most people realize just how difficult it is to sue someone.

Filing the paperwork is one thing, but there must also be a solid payoff in return to find an attorney to take your case.

Sure. But let's say you contact his employer and you somehow get him fired, or it's at least perceived that way. And then he can't get work. And it's all because of what you did over an uncollectible and no longer valid debt. He might have a case.

What are you trying to gain from this -- getting paid? or getting revenge?

I am not a person who is very vindicitive. He has had more than ample opportunity to make things right.

Here is a copy of an email he sent me.

The well is dry right now. After I got my year end bonus I paid cash for a new car. I also just closed on a half-million dollar home this past Friday, where I had to put down $50,000. Trust me, you have more cash than I do right now.

If someone is struggling financially, I wouldn't be an ass and say f your bills and pay me now.

I have a cousin in India, my other cousin and I lent him $20000 (10K each to buy a house) we know we are never going to get that money back, he struggles just to have enough money for the basic things. That is family that is what you do.

You make some vary valid points and once I think about it more, i will probably make a rational decision.

To be honest, I know I am not collecting a penny, but I personally don't care if he gets fire and honestly hope he does.

If that fucks up life, that will teach, don't try and cheat people when they help you out.

I would have been on the street or f'ed if I didn't have the means to pay for the additional rent. He moved back home and was working a job, I could said to him, that is not my problem your family is poor and allowed the rental agency to go after him. The company we rented from was notorious for going after students as they knew most students parents would pay it.

In 11 years, you mean to tell me you can't pay $3K back with no interest.

True, but if he lied on his U-4 form when obtaining his Series 6 & 7 licenses he'll certainly be in hot water with FINRA and the SEC, since they're his industry regulatory bodies.
