I remember when i was in college in 1995, saw an ad in the Daily Racing Form at my local OTB in Champaign. The ad was for ENGLISH SPORTS BETTING. I have been going ever since.

ESB is long since departed from my life, but they were my starting point. At that time it was all over the phone too, wasn't till i moved to Intertops did i wager a dime online.

How about you guys? How did you become aware it was even possible to do this offshore?

Won a NSA Sponsered contest last year in the NCAA tourney. only 4 people signed up and it was $500 guaranteed, $250 from NSA and $250 from Olympic into an Olympic account. Had to like those odds

heard an ad on local radio circa 1993 for bowmans, drove over to the local western union with a thousand bucks in my pocket and the party was on.

Good one Pancho, i didn't really think much was going on pre 1994 or 95 becasue the internet is what set off offshore gambling in my eyes, ands before that time there wasn't a real internet, or at least not like it is today.

Not having the net sucked too, i used to have to get the lines off the phone on a recorded message, write them down and study whatever local paper i could find, what a different world it is now compared to then.

RICH'S SPORTSBOOK offering a 10% bonus on deposits. Even though I lived in Vegas, I had to dive in. They immediately (10 days) cut me off saying I was betting "air-moves" and did not allow me the bonus. LOL LOL LOL. Rich was a 100% clown and should have been working in a circus instead of as a wanna-be bookmaker.

Saw an ad for Sportsmarket/Aces Gold around 96, and signed up. Played there primarily until they went bust, stiffing me for about 8K.

I was getting tired of betting professionally in Vegas and moved to San Francisco to take a "real" job, but knew I would miss the challenge so I got on with Dial a Bet and Rich's. I lost a little when both went under, but moved to Playersonly a lot of my money before books started going down. I can't remember if it was one of those, or another book that went under, but I knew my money was in bad shape when one day I called in. I noticed over the two prior days I was getting terrible numbers because I had a pager with DJ Franks on it and they were quoting me lousy numbers. I would say "whats the line on the Twins?" and get a lousy number. So I tried again this day, except for the Twins-Yankees game I said "whats the number on the Yanks?" and the guy gave me a terrible line, really bad and I said ok give me the Twins for 400. He got mad and said "ah a real trickster you'se are" in a deep Brooklyn accent. I won the bet and within 3 days took out all but about 2 bets from that place, only to be used when I could swindle them into a shaded line and go the other way. They went under maybe 6 months later, sort of what I expected.

"I was getting tired of betting professionally in Vegas"

Man, I wish i could find myself in that situation, seems like something that would be impossible to get tired of, unless you are lost and have no clue what you are doing, then again doesn't seem possible if you are a professional, you must know something!

Anyway, thats an interesting perspective..

Actually how I started offshore, always read CP - and they had ads for Offshore books, I think they even had a write up on the prescription and found this place as well in the late 90's.
