My guess......I would say they lost about 30% of what they won the first weekend.

I would not believe totally what the books actually said about this weekend or any weekend, except when they report a great or vet good weekend. Reason being, (just my opinion they tend to put a good slant or playdown a bad weekend).
Plus there was diversity in the line: To just give one small example: WSEX had the Minn. money line at -$550 when I looked. Carib had the game $-400 money line. So there may have been different reactions at different books. Remember small players like me only have a couple of account and not dozens to play!

Didn't the favorite 10-4-1, if the books didn't lose this weekend I imagine they never lose.

Smart books will edge off action and sit on the vigs with occasionally keeping a game or too they like! Smart books didn't lose this week!

Is it assumed that the small players (or squares) mainly play the favorites? I don't know, but for me --I make my own little numbers and I play almost as many dogs as favorites.

Or is it assumed that the Sharpes (big players) take favorites more than dogs?

I never thought you could make broad assumptions on things like this. Could be way off here.

I feel most small players play favorites! All Sharps look for a wrong line and bang it whether its a favorite or underdog!

What is a wrong number?
Lets say 8 books have Team A favored -9
Lets say 2 other books Team A favored by -8.

Is it assumed that the 2 books with -8 are wrong?
Or Have the sharps made their own number?

JJgold......quote "if you lost betting this weekend you should retire"

lol.......translation the public had a good weekend.....

Jls626..............guess i am just plain stupid....

dont agree with you about books should edge off action and sit on the vig and "keep a game or two they like"

if you follow that advice you will be busted before the season is over......

cant speak for large shops but any shop booking a few hundred or less players didnt fare too well.....

I am sorry for using the "R" word - and NOTHING EL

from what i heard on the stardust show sunday:

saturday was a good day until oregon and sugar shane covered/won

sunday was a so-so day until the vikes covered the later game.

from what i can tell - books barely "won" this weekend.

oldmantime,

I've often asked myself the same question and I think the proper approach is to just not get too concerned about it. Sometimes it's for one reason and sometimes another and without inside information we'll never know. We should just be happy that our effective juice is low when the odds differ and base our opinion on the game on other factors IMO.

Dimeplayersonly,
Books got their ass's kicked this weekend if they didn't edge off and sit on some vigs! Why do you think there are vigs? I'm sure you have been around long enough sitting on vigs are automatic winners, why not do it?? There are enough books out there to do it! Just a thought, maybe i'm wrong!

Oldmantime,
Sharps have a line on each game they go by! Do you think if there are 15 games that EVERY line is a solid one! Trust me there are at least 2 lines way off every week according to past statistics! Figuring out which ones they are are the tough part! You really have to analyze each game with a microscope to figure it out!
