They should have put the Panthers In the NFC east and the Cowboys in the NFC South.

If they would have done that the saints would still be alive for the Super Bowl.

The Saints could be the Colts of the NFC.
haha.

Caroline started their franchise in 1995 in the NFC West, actually. New Orleans started in 1966 in the NFC East along with Dallas, Washington, and Phili. Dallas was actually called the Dallas Steers and then Rangers. They ultimately became the Cowboys in 1960.

History is why Dallas isn't in the South...

But your right..

Sharp answer too Bourn. Not many are aware Panthers entered the league in the West... They tried to hype SF vs CAR as a rivalry lol

Saints better focus on their defenses soon, they ve been terrible for awhile, points and yards on them this year have to be some kind of record I would think teamwise

Remember when the Arizona Cardinals were in the NFC East? Haha

The divisions geographically don't make complete sense. Dolphins in the AFC East? You can't get farther South than Miami. The Colts are closer to Cincy and Cleveland and possibly Pittsburgh before they reach one of their division opponents cities.

The Cowboys connection to the NFC East all ties to the powerful influence of longtime GM Tex Schramm who was BFF with longtime NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle.

In 1970, as it became clear the impact national television contracts would have on the NFL, Schramm wanted to be locked into the division with the New York football Giants and The Hated Redskins.

This also resulted in the geographic craziness of the 1970-1993 Atlanta Falcons being a staple of the NFC West.

Schramm's influence was also key to the AFL Dallas Texans being forced out of town and upward to Kansas City where Ft Worth's own Lamar Hunt would establish his longtime base for the Chiefs

The franchise has never been called anything but the Cowboys.

This also resulted in the geographic craziness of the 1970-1993 Atlanta Falcons being a staple of the NFC West.

Schramm was also known for innovations that helped redefine the modern NFL. These include instant replay, using computer technology in scouting, multi-color striping of the 20- and 50-yard lines, 30-second clock between plays, extra-wide sideline borders, wind-direction stripes on the goal post uprights, the referee's microphone, and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. While leading the league's Competition Committee, he oversaw rule changes such as using overtime in the regular season, putting the official time on the scoreboard, moving goalposts from the front of the end zone to the back, and protecting quarterbacks through the in-the-grasp rule. Schramm's desire for a more comprehensive scouting combine led to the annual offseason NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. [1] [2]
Don Shula said of Schramm, "I truly believe he had as much, or more, to do with the success of professional football as anyone who has ever been connected with the league."

^ Dallas, Texas was granted an NFL franchise on January, 28 1960. They announced they would be called the Dallas Cowboys on March 19, 1960. So I guess they were those other two names for just a few months.
