I saw it for the first time this afternoon. I can't believe the hype this movie got. Way overrated.

Honestly, aside from the wresting scenes from the begininng, it was pretty much a B movie.

I really thought that I wouldn't like it,but I thought it was a good movie.

The New Jersey aspect,the darkness,the low-budget ,& great acting
make it work for me.:toast:

i think alot depends on wether you had a phase in your life where you followed wrestling... I did as a kid.

The story in this movie reminds me of Jake The Snake Roberts.

What? Why are you guys picking on the Dark Knight? Overrated?! It grossed a billion dollars (only the 4th movie to do so) and won numerous awards. One of the 5 best action movies ever made.

As far as 'The wrestler' goes; it's a well crafted film that gives insight to the life of an aging pro wrestler. Very original and beautifully done.

I really enjoyed the wrestler personally.

As for overrated movies, slumdog millionire takes the cake.

nothing worse for a movie fan than having a movie hyped up before you get a chance to watch it cause rarely if ever does the movie deliver.

I work in the industry and I get my hands on some films before major release and slumdog was one I got early. It was cleaver, it was different and I thought a pretty special film. Better than 95% of the fluff that hits the screen. Once the word got out and it's buzz took on a life of its own very few people got to see it without thinking this is going to be one of the top 5 movies of the year and that's unfortunate. Dark Knight I saw a couple weeks after it was released and despite the hype I thought it delivered but it's more an exception than the rule.

Very intense movie...I guess none of you guys have made any mistakes with your kid, or never got the girl you wanted, or never was short on the rent...

Rourke did a tremendous job...definitely worthy of oscar nomination...

Agree with the Jake "the snake" Roberts comparison - if you see The Wrestler AND Beyond the Mat it really shows what these guys are up against once their careers on the big stage are over. Really haunting stuff.

I myself didn't like the very end, as I felt like the whole film was an attempt at not being overly dramatic - and then it's all ruined (for me, at least) when he's climbing the turnbuckle at the end... But it's a small complaint I guess.
