NBAlive, according to the commentator "what san antonio is doing is smart, they know the inbounds passer cant take the shot so they are electing not to gaurd him" or something to the effect.

weird.. robert horry's long arms could have deflect the ball and game over there...

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Some coaches like to put a man on the in-bounds, some coaches like to play a "safety" in the middle.

popp was too scared of kobe....

why would they double kobe beyond the 3's line...????

ok.. kobe's a great clutch player... but i don't think he can score w/ bowen on him w/ 0.4 secs... no sir...

if phil jackson were the coach, he would put robert horry on the passer.

a deflection = game over

instead they gave up a wide open shot to fisher... great going

Spurs were lucky to have even been in it. LA laid down after getting up and they almost gave it away.

it always made more sense to me to gaurd the inbounds passer in that scenario. if you dont, you give him perfect vision to see the play develop and throw the pass exactly when/where he wants to.

Just saw this thread.Impossible to get that shot off in .4 seconds, simply impossible, there's nothing to even question here. The ref's screwed up again, what else is new. Lakers up to their lucky ways again, only difference it was usually Robert Horry making all of those miraculous shots to squeak by with those wins......

I know this is old news by now but I read on espn.com that the NBA ruled that the clock "started appropriately." Like others have said in this thread, there is no way Fisher got that shot off in 0.4 seconds. Just use common sense and physics. Payton's pass didn't just "deflect" off Fisher's hands and then fly into the basket. Fisher had to catch the ball in his hands which means the ball presses into Fisher's palms and fingers and then Fisher has to shoot the ball. No way it took only 0.4 seconds from the time the ball touches Fisher's hands until the ball is released from his fingertips. I don't care if the Lakers win, as long as they win fair. Spurs were cheated.
