Through tonite's 7-3 win over Tampa Bay the Sox bullpen has gone 32.1 innings without giving up a run.

Top three pens:
Red Sox
Yankees
Cubs

Bottom three pens:
Indians
Mariners
Diamond Backs.

(Just listened to segment on Baseball tonight about this subject).

RPM - while the O's are off to a great start I don't think they can thank their bullpen which has 4 saves in 5 opportunities. The O's bats are the reason for their early season surge.

This trully is one deep and very talented bullpen.

Actually, this is one very deep and talented team all the way around.

BUT UNFORTUNELY, IT REALLY MEANS DIDDLY SQUAT UNTIL THEY HAVE CHAMPIONSHIP IN HAND.

Doing all this without Nomar is even more impressive though. And I'm definitely not a Bosox fan. They look to be the most complete team I have seen since Yanks' 3-peat in late 90's.

David Ortiz has made a big differance in the middle of the line-up since the Sox got him from the Twins. He continues to be hot, especially at Fenway. Come summer he may be as dangerous a hitter as any in the AL.

Funny how everybody is quick to mention NOMAR and never a word about TROT.

Also, I sincerely hope that Francona gives Bellhorn the starting 2B job over Reese.

I would probably presume that they are going to see very equal action.

I love my personal idea of using Reese in just the latter innings for his defense.

Bellhorn has proven to be a pesky hitter and although he is only hitting .200, leads the AL in bases on balls the last I checked with 24.

it was only like 3 years ago lowe would come in for the close everyone would roll their eyes and you could pretty much chalk it up as a loss for the sox. . .what a dramatic turnaround. that epstien knows how to piece together a team

going into today, the orioles bulpen had the second best era in the american league. trailing only boston.

The addition of Curt Schilling as a legit top of the line starter to go with Pedro has been huge. Throw in Wake, Lowe, Arroyo, and now Kim, and you have a nice rotation.

Let me put it this way - which pen would you like to have?

Lopez, Parrish, Bauer, DeJean, Groom, Ryan, and Julio.

or

White, Osborne, Gordon, Rivera, Quantrill, Graman, and Proctor.

The thread is subjective about what pens on paper are the best and worst in baseball.

Huge Sox fan, but let's keep it in perspective for now:

1. They swept the D-Rays - worst team in the league.
2. Yanks are off to a slow start but will surely improve. Does anyone seriosuly believe Jeter and Williams will bet less than .200 for the season and ARod will stay around .250. Yanks will definitely rebound.
3. Can Nomar come back to regular performance? Hope so, but no guarantee.
4. Can Pedro hold up? He's been increasingly fragile over the years.

Sox fans, let's not uncork the champagne just yet.

Mudbone - No question it is early. Yes the Yanks are already playing better. No the DRays are not the worse team in the league (imo). Of course Jeter and AROD will improve also. Will Nomar be effective is a good question. Can Pedro hold up, yes I believe he will if not over-worked like he was at times last year. Curt Schilling's prescense takes a lot of pressure off of him. The point is the Sox are different this year, the pen is that difference, something they have never really enjoyed in recent years is a stone drop-dead bullpen.

lets stop acting retarded. the sox win the AL east, the yanks will battle for the wild card as mentioned above. . but honestly, will they get it?! they swept an oak team who didnt have a good record coming in. guys open your eyes. the sox are so much better than the rest of the leauge they only turn it on when neccesary they dont want to embarass anyone. in the tampa game they put up 7 in the first pissed and they get orders to cool it the rest of the way. meanwhile the yanks try to get runs up and texas plays their ass off in every game. the sox are so good they only try half the time. the leauge knows it dummys, this team is head and shoulders above everyone. the sox are stacked end of story. you dont see "sox won 6/7 vs NYY, first time in 90 years" becuase the yanks are struggling. . . open your eyes guys, no one wants to even try against boston becuase they are better in every phase vs. anyone in the leauge. it isnt fair but thats whats going on.
