Before you get all weepy over the Astros remember they still have to get in the playoffs. Their magic number is one with one to play. A Giants win and an Astro loss will force a playoff on Monday.

From the in case anyone cares department

Jeff Kent hit a two-run shot off Adam Bernero in the fifth for his 278th home run as a second baseman, breaking Ryne Sandberg's major league record for homers by a 2nd sacker.

Kermit, personally I don't like the Giants chances at all (to put it mildly) but the fact remains they are still alive and stranger things have happened.

You have to hand it to MLB for the playoff set up - last day of the regular season and not one team is certain who they will be playing in the playoffs. Not bad scheduling.

In case of a tie for NL Wild card

If the Astros lose and the Giants win Sunday, the teams would play Monday afternoon in San Francisco. The winner would get the wild card. IF it happens the game will make for some good Monday afternoon TV.

Could make for an interesting parallel...the Astros could be this year's Marlins. Baf start and replace manager mid-season edging to win the wild card...
