Looks like my old neighborhood, now its just a hood. In 10 years it went from a nice clean neighborhood where everyone whatched out for each other, now its ghetto/welfare city. It used to be an Italian American neighborhood, now its not, not to sound racial, but after doing work at many different projects on the east coast, its all the same.
What happened?, how can it be changed?, how do we stop working class people from moving out of the crime ridden cities? We can't. I'm just a little frustrated as I can't go back "home", the way it used to be. Now I'll have to be one of the "burbs" suburbans.

I think Detroit was ranked as number one for most abondoned houses a few years back, I always wondered why the owners didn't sell and someone could fix the houses and the neighborhoods up. The city only had a certain amount of funding to destroy (bulldoze) x amount of homes, but the amount of abondoned/irrepairable homes was way higher.
Angelle, you trying to save the world?, I wish we all could. All the money that is spent helping other countries, when we could use a lot of help right here in the great USA. If only we were Mayor for a day, LOL. In some cities, the police officers were forced to live within the city limits itself. Some didn't even want to live in the city because of the high crime rates.
Your right and I agree, just about everday I check out the new laws/policies etc that is in the House of Rep's or Senate. You'd be surprised to find out where millions of our tax dollars go. Here's the site:

Wow...this is a complex social problem...maybe a litte more heavy for the RX offshore forum than usual topics, but here is my take. There are many causes of the problem. The main one is of course poverty. OK, why are these people/areas poor??? Some reasons: The are less educated, have less marketable job skills, have turned to drugs etc and are not reliable to work, sell drugs
instead of work a regular job (which causes a major cycle of crime/violent crime in areas.) or they choose not to work and take advantage of the welfare state

Many people work their way out and upgrade but it seems there is always going to be a "bottom" of society and guess what...they need a place to live and hang out so guess where they live and hang out...the exact areas you are speaking of. When someone who grew up in the projects makes the NFL or NBA do they stay in that neighborhood? Of course not, their new economic situation instantly gives them a ticket out of the "hood." If someone really wants out and they are moderately intelligent and have a desire to work and make something of themselves then almost anyone can upgrade their situation. A good example is the opportunity the military provides. You can be from the worst hood in the U.S., but you can join the service and be trained in a skill or craft and then "parlay" (I had to fit in a gambling term somewhere in this McIrish length post) that into a civilian career that gets you "out" of the "hood." More later if anyone thinks I make some good points.
