The Anaheim Angels this week informed the 35-year-old Percival that they would not offer him a contract to be their closer for next season, despite 33 saves in 38 chances in 2004. The Cubs need a closer badly, and Percival might be the perfect fit.

agreed. Percival would be a perfect fit for the Cubbies. Move Latroy Hawkins back into the setup role he was signed for. He did great as a set up man, just was terrible as a closer, alot like his Twins days. Get percival and add a solid lefty, and the cubs might actually have a good bullpen.

One interesting statistic concerning Percival is that he had a 1.38 ERA in day games compared with 3.44 at night. The Cubs, of course, play the majority of their home games during the day.

He's been hurt part of the last few seasons. Cubs have had plenty of those closers lately. Love to see go after Benitez but won't happen.

Agreed...if he were worth a sh!t Anaheim would keep him.
They got K-Rod waiting in the wings, thats why Percival is expendable for the Angels. Percival surely isnt a long time solution for the cubs, but should have a year or two left in the tank. During that time, the Cubs can set out to get a top notch young closer to take over for the long haul.

I can hear Cubs fans next September if the Cubs have a shot at Percival and don't sign him. Why why why didn't we get Percy????
