Perino was born in Evanston, Wyoming, the daughter of Janice "Jan" and Leo Perino, and grew up in Denver, Colorado. Two of her paternal great-grandparents were Italian immigrants.

In 2007, during an appearance as the week's celebrity guest on the radio quiz show Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!, Perino shared that she had once panicked during a White House press briefing when a reporter referred to the Cuban Missile Crisis because she did not know what it was.
"Darn. I KNEW this was gonna happen. Eventually."
"I was panicked a bit because I really don’t know about . . . the Cuban Missile Crisis. I was pretty sure that it had to do with Cuba and missiles but, past that suspicion I really didn't know anything about it. I came home and I asked my husband. I said, 'Wasn't that like the Bay of Pigs thing?’ And he said,
'Oh, Dana.'"
On December 14, 2008, a TV journalist, Muntadar al-Zeidi, threw two shoes at Bush during a Baghdad press conference.
Bush successfully, quite deftly and very very impressively dodged both shoes
but Dana Perino's eye was injured by a microphone stand during the commotion surrounding al-Zeidi's arrest.
In Arabic Culture to hurl one's shoe at someone is a deep insult.

Haha, I hear ya! The everyday "hell to the Naws" were getting old...
Yeah, but less so than was true in the past. Less to do with her physical appearance though, my Crush was mostly bcuz she'd go hard at people she'd be interviewing who deflected questions, skirted around answering those, sometimes even (if they continued to deflect) cussing that person out.
Recent past though, she's Mellowed, considerably. It feels like she hasn't cussed anyone out for months now.
Its as though someone got in her ear and said "Stop It."
When she was at The White House, in the role of Press Secretary, "Decorum" prevented her from cussing out The Press Corp, despite the fact that, had she done so, I would have understood completely and had zero problem with this.
After leaving that role she had Freedom once again, the chains were off, she was able to hurl profanities at interviewees who were being dodgy.
Now this though, this Descent, this Downward Spiral thats led to her becoming a person of more Grace.
I'm sure it has something to do with her getting that Dog. I just feel strongly that the dog has played a role in this.
