RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 9 MESOMA 3/1

# 1 CONTROL STAKE 6/1

# 2 OPERATION STEVIE 5/1

MESOMA appears to be the wager in here. Recently Hawley has provided bettors with a strong winning percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races. Should finish in the top three without any problem. Should definitely be given a chance for this event if only for the quite good speed rating recorded in the last contest. CONTROL STAKE - Ought to be considered here on the basis of the numbers in the speed section alone. Has been running solidly lately and will almost certainly be up on the lead early on. OPERATION STEVIE - Has to be given a shot in this contest if only for the competitive speed rating recorded in the last competition. Contreras has a sharp win percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races.

Lone Star Park - Race #1 - Post: 6:35pm - Claiming - 9.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $13,000 Class Rating: 92

Rating: 3

#4 MR LEXIS (ML=4/1)
#9 UNBRIDLED GIANT (ML=3/1)
#3 SING IT UP (ML=15/1)

MR LEXIS - A racer coming back this soon after a sharp effort is a good omen. Diego and Rodriguez-Torres partnered up are a horse gambler's friend. This gelding's last speed figure garnered on July 7th is uppermost in last race speed figures. UNBRIDLED GIANT - This gelding is in fine form. Ran first on July 21st. In this race here, this horse has garnered the highest speed fig at the distance, so I have to give him the edge. Came home in quick time last out. A positive sign. SING IT UP - My experience tells me to watch out for this mount in this contest

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 U R MY LAST CHANCE (ML=5/2), #5 TOWN EXTENSION (ML=5/1), #1 LAUDY (ML=8/1),

U R MY LAST CHANCE - Didn't meet expectations when backed as the favorite twice. TOWN EXTENSION - Don't feel this less than sharp equine will make a winning move today. That last speed rating was mediocre when compared with today's Equibase class figure. LAUDY - When checking today's class figure, he will have to register a better speed fig than last time around the track to compete in this turf route.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Turf Man - MR LEXIS - You got to like this thoroughbred against this competition. He has the top turf number off his last race.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Go with #4 MR LEXIS on top if we're getting at least 4/1 odds

RACE #9 - SARATOGA RACE COURSE - 5:18 PM EASTERN POST
The John Morrissey Stakes
6½ FURLONGS DIRT THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD STAKES $100,000.00 PURSE

#1 WEEKEND HIDEAWAY
#5 GYPSUM JOHNNY
#9 EYE LUV LULU
#12 CELTIC CHAOS

The race for New York-bred sprinters, inaugurated in 2004, recognizes John Morrissey, the former champion bare-knuckle boxer and gambler from Troy, N.Y., who created Saratoga Race Course in 1863 with the help of William Travers, John Hunter, and Leonard Jerome. Although not an official member of the Saratoga Association, Morrissey ran the meet when it moved across Union Avenue to its current location. Brought to the United States from Ireland by his parents as a toddler, Morrissey died in 1878 in a room at the Adelphi Hotel in downtown Saratoga Springs at the age of 47. Here in the 14th running of this stakes test, #1 WEEKEND HIDEAWAY qualifies as a TrackMaster PLUS "PowerPony," takes a class drop (-5), is the overall speed leader, and has produced a quartet of "POWER RUNS" in his last five starts, hitting the board in three of those races, including a "POWER RUN WIN" in his last start. Jockey Luis Saez has been in his irons on 14 previous occasions, hitting the board in 8 of those rides, and is back this afternoon here at "The Spa" for his 15th ride.
