I put this here only b/c of the large number of players that frequent this board and not the horse board.

I want an honest response from those of you who do this regularly. What are your "normal" bets (type of bet and general amount wagered) and how do you make out in a typical month? Year?
What "rules" do you set for your betting that may help me with "money management"

Just hoping to gain some structured insight as i progress. I am quickly learning some things that I know will never be REPEATED in my betting game.

thanks in advance

Win bets only!!!!!

Rest of bets are for suckers unless you have a huge bankroll.

Bet about 5 win bets per week only to have a chance.

Get into a exchange betting site like ehorse and get better odds and lower the juice on bets.

Good Luck

It is a virtual impossibility to win at the track these days without some sort of rebate.

There is too wide a proliferation of information and the gorillas in the pools are as sharp as at any point in time since I've been following the races.

My normal bets are anything that is offered if I think I have pos ev. Amount wagered varies wildy depending on the depth of the pools, whether I am betting into or out of the pools, MU bets etc.....

How do I make out? Well I'm hoping for a dramatic improvement as I was fortunate to have a friend hook me up with a much better deal than I was getting before.

My goal in the past was to try and hang around even and hope to hit the big ticket once a year.

My goals are loftier now.

I don't really have any hard and fast money management rules. For DB angles I usually bet a fixed amount and increase my bets by the square root of the profit, if the angle can get ahead. My typical pace/trip betting, I use an interval based on how kind the track I'm betting is to my type of horses, how likely are my animala to get slammed in the pools after the fact etc....

Don't be bashful about getting down vs bad favs, nothing wrong in betting multiple animals to win, or gimmicks galore if you can identify posev generated by a big neg ev on one single other horse.

Horseracing for most is characterized by alot more losers than winners, the idea is to get ahead when the winners hit. I would give as a piece of advice to never bet any favorites. There is no doubt spots where favorites are overlays. But having looked at alot of DB angles, it is extremely tough to find ones that consistently won using short priced horses.

Good luck.

jj and sodium are offering solid adive.....

though, i think win and place bets are ok.....

use some type of tracking software...

get to know the track (any type of bias)

know the trainers...the methods, intentions ect...same as jockeys...

discipline, bankroll, money-management, are more important in this game than any other imo....

horses can be beat....but its tough

sds,

Two main points of advice.

1) Stay away from the big tracks. If a player can do his work and come close to winning at tracks such as: HOL SA DMR AQU BEL SAR GP CD, the same player can spend half the time working at tracks such as PRM TUP EVD DD HOO GLD etc., and get to the status of it's not a question of if you are going to win, but how much you are going to win. With the proliferation of offshore opportunities on these tracks, the amounts can be astronomical.

2) Learn how to bet the money. This is the most important thing of all. Each situation has a different way to execute a betting strategy which will give you the most profit if your opinion is correct. In essence, learn how the pieces move and then learn how to attack! This you will have to figure out through trial and error.

Hey Guys,
All you have to do is become a good friend with a jockey or driver and you'll make thousands like I did in the 80's at Monticello raceway the shithole of racetracks!!! Never take tips from owners ,only the one on the horse, lol!
