Hope Solo Hit with 6 Month Suspension .....For Trashing Sweden.

Hope Solo has just been benched by Team USA soccer for SIX MONTHS -- for trashing Team Sweden as a "bunch of cowards" after they beat the U.S. in an Olympic match earlier this month. U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati announced the suspension Wednesday afternoon -- saying the comments were "unacceptable and do not meet the standards of conduct we require from our National Team players."

But what's really interesting ... Gulati says Solo got such a harsh suspension because of her history of embarrassing off-the-field issues ... like the time Hope and her husband went joyriding in a Team USA soccer van without permission, while her husband was drunk. She was suspended 30 days for that incident.
"Taking into consideration the past incidents involving Hope, as well as the private conversations we've had requiring her to conduct herself in a manner befitting a U.S. National Team member, U.S. Soccer determined this is the appropriate disciplinary action," Gulati said.

I'd expect that she would, by now, be able to avoid getting herself into spots like this.

With all the heat she has taken for so long (and for so many various happenings of this nature that see her basically lacking a "filter" as to her reactions to stuff) its not unreasonable to expect to see some Evolution in her ability to see the big picture as in what her options re: reaction are and where those various options might lead.

Yes...this is to say that the exact same as "Surprised that she hasn't yet become just another muffled clone who has surrendered to Censorship by the PC Police, waved the White Flag on being themselves, saying what they feel...."

I'm not defending her. In my opinion one should be able to develop the ability to consider what their comments and actions will lead to, before they make those like.....a person needs to devote some degree of thought, "Foresight", to choosing their battles and which ones are worth fighting.

I grasp why its unacceptable.

and I even (also) understand why borrowing the Team USA soccer van without permission, while her husband was drunk is unacceptable as well yet I personally approve of both things.

I know that very few people will agree with me that stealing the Team Soccer Van was a good idea and the comments she is now in trouble for were "Right" but a world filled with only clones afraid to express themselves or embrace spontaneous adventure seems like a world that would be really boring.

Love her or hate her, the girl is Fun. Interesting, at the least...she is not Boring.


Likely she will be more Boring after this though. Only so much a unique character can take before a society that stays Offended by SOMEthing, in perpetuity, and demands everyone be a mindless clone....beats that Warrior down.

Another VERY important facet to Hope saying what she did is that Priority #1 of US Soccer Federation and TEAM USA SOCCER is to GROW THE GAME. Create Fan Interest.

Sweden's "Park The Bus" Defensive style chosen vs. Team USA and the exact same strategy they used that next game which saw them find a way to defeat BRAZIL the Host Nation goes against the growing of the game, is a Wet Blanket to growing fan interest. Boring is why many do not get interested in Soccer.

I Dig though that comments like Hope made are not a good example to set for little-girl soccer players.

And that stealing the Team USA Soccer Van is also a questionable example to set.

Bottom line here may be though that we WANT this type of over the top competitive fire within our Goal Keeper, this might be a good attribute in a Goalkeeper and her comments were not only NOT incorrect but the reaction to these was also "Over The Top".


The Key Problem remains: Too many people seize on any chance to express OUTRAGE over a thing. Its a completely aggravating condition within Human Beings right now.

"Well is she a Great Goalkeeper?" and "If I bet Team USA Women do I have the arguably best Goalkeeper possible?"

To which the answers to both are: "Yes". And, again, great chance her "Intensity" contributes to her being such a competent Goalkeeper.

Here though, and to Handicappers, the Primary Question should be if the chick is competent in Goal. And I like that. The fact that within a given community such as this all the PC Stuff has at least a CHANCE to be relegated to "less important".


Yeah......Hope's outcome in Goal within this tournament just passed was less competent than we needed....

.....she is among the best Goalkeepers of all time though and to me, a Soccer UNDER Bettor and occasional TEAM USA ML Bettor, thats what matters. That is The Primary Question.

I think a baseball player would and should be fined if he commented the other team were cowards because they used the shift too much and the pitcher only pitched to each hitter's cold zone, or if a football player called the other team a bunch of cowards because they constantly got 3 yds and a cloud of dust on offense and relied on their stout defense to win the game.

SOME (potentially, at the least) Valid argument on Game Strategy but reality is US Soccer Women's Squad has and has had, in recent past (some retired), the very best Female Soccer Players in the World. Possible you mean "Hot Garbage" cuz you dislike Lesbians, only sense in which the use of "Hot Garbage" usage makes even remote sense really. Only a few of them are Lesbians though so even that explanation of "hot garbage" fails.

Crystal Dunn, Linsey Horan, Mallory Pugh, Morgan Brien just 4 examples of Phenomenal World Class Soccer Talent that any squad in the WORLD would rejoice at having even just ONE of these 4 U23 girls, even just ONE of them would be the Star by a wide margin on every country's National Soccer Team and we have FOUR of them.

Morgan Brien has chronic Hamstring issues though Mallory's aggressive play risks injury but that moreso true of Linsey Horan. Linsey is a BEAST.

Young Talent upcoming on TEAM USA is phenomenal and thats just those I've mentioned, so many others exist including phenomenally talented tweenaged and teens that will come up, battle for a spot.

Our Veterans Christen Press, Carli Lloyd, Tobin Heath, Whitney, Julie, Ali, another Allie, Megan......too many to mention, all among the top Female Soccer talent on Planet Earth. Thats Reality.

Becky Sauerbrunn may be among the best defensive Soccer Players that has ever existed.

Godsend. Arby's food WAAAAY to expensive for what you get. I used to get 5 Roast beef for $5.00 not they demand $5.00 for 3 of them.
