Homeland Security Chief John Kelly offered a dire assessment of the terror situation in America on Friday, just as many Americans were preparing for holiday travel.
Kelly said a terror attack 'can happen almost here any time' during a Fox News appearance.
Recalling a conversation he was having off-air with Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy, Kelly said from the famous Fox couch, 'I was telling Steve on the way in here, if, if he knew what I know about terrorism, he'd never leave the house in the morning.'

Doocy nodded as Kelly described their conversation. Brian Kilmeade was silent.
A shocked Ainsley Earhart said, 'Really?' To which Kelly said, 'Yeah.'
He quickly added, 'But the good news is, again, we have the finest men and women in uniform, out of uniform, police officers, local law enforcement, New York City cops protecting us.'
Friday marks the start of Memorial Day weekend in the US, a holiday dedicated that's formally dedicated to the nation's fallen but many Americans use for vacation.
Kelly's terror warning came after terrorists carried out four attacks in one week across Europe, Asia and Africa.
In the latest assault, a group of 28 Coptic Christians were murdered in Cairo, Egypt. As man as 10 gunmen in three SUVs stormed the victims, Fox has reported. They were on their way to a monastery to pray.
ISIS has not claimed credit for the massacre, but the terror group is believed to be the culprit. Islamic extremists have attacked the Middle Eastern religious group on two other occasions in the last six months.

Kelly said on Fox that the threat from terrorist groups is 'constant' and the crimes that have been taking place were committed 'by generally the same groups.'
'It's non stop,' he said.
The 'good news' is Americans have a plethora of agencies protecting them at home and abroad such as the National Security Agency, FBI, and the Department of Defense, he said.
'But it can happen almost here any time,' he added, offering an alarming warning at the start of the first summer holiday.
Kelly also commented on the president's desire for a border wall to keep threatening individuals from crossing into the United States through the porous southern border.
Border crossings are down 70 percent from January, with almost no unaccompanied minors coming over, which wiped out the recruitment pool of deadly gangs and drug cartels.
'We are taking care of business on the border,' he said.
Despite the success, Kelly said the United States will 'still need the wall.'
'We need a physical barrier in certain places, and certainly technology in other places,' he said.

Yesterday, at a forum in Berlin, Germany, Trump's predecessor took direct aim at the idea. 'We can't isolate ourselves. We can't hid behind a wall,' Barack Obama said. Kelly said Friday that it isn't true

President Trump has requested $2.6 billion for border security from Congress, $1.6 billion of which he's said would go toward constructing a barrier between the US and Mexico.
Yesterday, at a forum in Berlin, Germany, Trump's predecessor took direct aim at the idea. 'We can't isolate ourselves. We can't hid behind a wall,' Barack Obama said.
Asked about the former president's comments, and whether it was true that the US was hiding, Kelly said Friday on Fox, 'Not at all, we're not hiding behind a wall.
'We are constructing, a, physical barrier, backed up by technology' and border patrol agents to 'simply safeguard our southern border,' he said.
Kelly said Obama was wrong, because the wall will not impede normal commercial traffic.
