George Washington +4.5
I am not very high on Maryland's team this year. They have absolutely no inside game what so ever, something George Washington should be able to exploit tonight. Where the Teprs get no production from their front line that is not the case for GW. In fact their strength is in their front court, which is extremely athletic, and rebounds the ball exceptionally well. Damian Hollis 6'8 averages 12.3ppg, and 5.3rpg, Rob Diggs 6'8 averages 10.5ppg, and 9,5rpg, and VT transfer 6'7 Wynton Witherspoon throws in another 6.3ppg, to go along with Henry Opoku 6'9 and another 6.0ppg. Needless to say they get a great deal of production from their front court where they should be able to dominate the glass, leading to a bunch of easy baskets. However where GW's front line should hold an advantage the key to the game will be freshman Tony Taylor and how he matches up against a much bigger Grevis Vasquez. I actually like the match up here. Taylor has come in and improved on last season's pg inefficiencies. Taylor has a great 3 point stroke shooting 38.5 % from 3 point range. Taylor averages 9.3ppg, but most importantly has a assist:turnover ration of 1.6:1. He has done a good job of running the Colonials, and should be able to hold his own against a strong Maryland back court. Another key to the game will be another point guard, Travis King. Last season he was pre season 1 st A10, until suffering a season ending knee injury. He is still not 100%, and is only playing around 20 minutes a game, but has been solid in running the team when he is out there with a solid 2.8 a:to ratio. He brings GW some valuable experience, and has showed freshman Tony Taylor the way. Between the 2 of them I think they should be able to neutralize Maryland's backcourt, and let their advantage down low go to work. The game is being played at the Verizon Center, so this is a neutral court game. This is a big rivalry and 4.5 is too many for a team with less holes to fill. I think this is another game where the dog has a good chance of winning outright.
