Just some purely fun bets for the All-Star Game if you feel like betting it:
2003 Home Run Derby
Carlos Delgado +370
Jason Giambi +385
Field +470
Giambi is a given. He is the defending champion and was arguably the best hitter in 2001 when Sosa took the title despite not hitting as many home runs the first two rounds. Delgado’s only derby showing saw him hit 5 in the first round, followed by a 1-3 letdown to Griffey in round 2. He is the type of hitter that should do well in this tourney, however. The field bet has lots of value as well. Bonds looks like he is going to bypass this event, but you never know. Griffey was adamant about not playing in the derby the year he won it, only deciding to play an hour before it started. The two “field” spots will most likely be filled by Richie Sexson and Mike Lowell. Lowell has shown great power this season, but Sexson is the main threat in this pick. He came in 4th last year and is smacking the ball around this season. I just can’t see the other fellas winning this one. The park’s dimensions are even on every side so no batter really has an advantage. Those are the big three for this event. Good luck.
