It is no wonder our country is in the shape it is. The help that some of these places have just boggles the mind. Try to make it short. Wife wanted some new heavy duty glass storm doors on the doors today. Had the original's put on twenty years ago and now due to age , deteriation and other things decided to get new. The new ones are heavier, block out more uv ray's and are just a lot better.I get my carpenter to measure and he sends me up to get them. I go to H/D and after waiting 15 minutes and pushing the express button at the door desk , someone shows up. I think it was the homeless guy i saw standing about a block away , but i gave him my measurements and asked for a quote. Three of the doors were standard and one wasn't. I wanted special hardware and a lite tint on the non standard door as it gets full sun. He gave me prices after more than an hour of waiting. The prices seemed a bit high and i told him i would get another quote. Off i wnt to the Lowe's across the street, same procedure, waited over twenty minutes. Got a quote and told him i needed to check with my wife about the handles as they were slightly different on the handles.Went home checked with the carpenter, got everything straight , grabbed my money and went back. Lowe's was slightly cheaper and the Pella door has always been my favorite.Waited twenty minutes , finally got someone , they said their computer system was down and they couldn't take my2400.00 . They would call me when it came back on and i could come back.I waited all day and called them twice. Decided to go back to the homeless man at H/D and waited again. Got someone different and they had to run the quote again. This time it was 360.00 higher and i couldn';t pick up today because they were in another warehouse and maybe could get them day after tomorrow. I told them to stick it and left. Still waiting to hear from Lowe's and decided to order them at a slightly higher price from my carpenter who was getting them from a door distributor. Nobody wants my money and we are going to shit in a handbasket.:think2:

Employees Carrying Around ClipBoards w/ Credit Apps Attached To Them Offering Assistance To Minorities, College Students, Etc...While I Stood There W/ Cash Money Ready To Make My Purchase. Yet I Could Not Get A Few Simple Questions Answered. I Spent The Majority Of Two Days Looking But Did Not Make A Purchase!

Should've gone this route in the first place. Big boxes are okay if you just need a few 2x4's or sprinkler heads of the shelf.

Never, ever, order anything custom from these stores. Windows, doors, cabinets, millwork, etc. You might save a few bucks but it's not worth the headache.

Yes, I'm a salesman for a Window & Door distributor. :103631605

Is that a trick question Buster?

You can get any color aluminum window if you're willing to pay for the color match & set-up charges.

But what most people call 'brown' aluminum, is actually bronze anodized aluminum which actually looks closer to black. Most aluminum manufacturers have a stock brown painted finish also.

If we're just talking standard residential size windows...Aluminum is usually 10-20% cheaper. Aluminum can be very expensive though for ultra high end stuff like Fleetwood.

I'd go with a wood window with an aluminum clad exterior. Like Marvin, Lincoln, Jeld-wen.

i got a quote for 2300.00 for 6 vinyl (bronze) and i did not realize at time that they still made the aluminum ones because all you see advertised now is vinyl..if i COULD have gone with white vinyl it would have been 1/2 price..

so now i may go with the bronze aluminum if the cost is lower

Lowes is way better than HD in good hoods, in badder hoods they are about equal.

The service at Lowe's used to be much, much better than HD. Back in 2004 I was between jobs and went to HD during the day when everyone else was at work. I couldn't get the attention of the helpers there so I went and had to wait in line for some help. I ended up leaving. So after a couple visits like this to HD I drove the extra miles to Lowe's and was waited on immediately.

I've been going to Lowe's ever since but I did happen to go to HD when I was in another state that didn't have Lowe's. The help there was actually pretty good.
