Didn't WSEX at one time have a daily prop on the DOW over--under?
I don't see it anymore; but what I know about the stock market would not feed a hummingbird.

What does this mean to Joe Sixpack? I remember some guy asked me what the dow was at in an interview. I had no idea. He wanted me to guess so I told him 16. This was maybe 8 years ago.

The 10,000 mark is an emotional stop. Although just a counter, it is a symbolic counter, the 5th digit. Joe sixpack may feel, if it dips below 10,000 there is no telling where it will stop. A true support level, when emotional investors get involved.
Scary to some.:scared2:

support levels aren't just for joe six packs. the market is a day trade environment and when you fall through support levels it affects those folks trading on the floor and the general populace too. I told you guys we were in for a bad time this week and for the short term. tulsa

Point taken Tulsa, someone asked what was the effect to Joe sixer, but it does have ramifications well beyond the novices. It could trigger auto sells, and institutional investors with real huge holdings. Stop loss? Calls? Options? The darksiders are on a roll.

Glad I am on the sidelines...OF:howdy:

>>Glad I am on the sidelines...<<

I'm riding this coaster down, down, down! I don't need the money for the next ten years, so I'm not chewing my nails yet. However, if I had known it would drop like this, of course, I would be on the sidelines! Now, I'm in it for the ride. tulsa

I wish I understood how people can buy "stock" in companies they have little to no knowledge in. Is it done for them by brokers who are fast talkers or is it just that they have GREAT FAITH in the "American Economy" whatever that is. Hey I'm not at all puting the idea down of playing, excuse me "investing" in the stock market. If there were not great success stories from others making $$$$$, then the idea would be over.
I guess (like Andy Rooney says, "I'm just too old to understand this")
I like to see what I buy---I don't own much of anything, but if I did want to buy something--that I could see and hold onto; the idea of gold coins appeals to me. Don't know why---maybe cause they are pretty--and oh yeah--I heard gold was a good investment. LOL

Inflation has become a very serious concern, as has the effect of high gas prices(this is probably more significant than you realize).

Bad spot right now, and probably not done yet.

Whoson1st, you can learn much about companies and do your own trading. You don't have to use brokers. However, there are many GREAT brokers out there too and you find those by referral just as you would many specialists we use in our lives. Gold is fine but it doensn't produce anything, though it can be a useful part of a portfolio. You may not agree with me, but carefully investing in the stock market with LONG TERM goals is one of the very best ways to grow your wealth.

Let me share with you something that I tell a lot of people who are leery about investing. If you own any US dollars and trade in US dollars then you are participating in the market. You see, our dollar is largely based on our economy and our economy is based on business. So, if business goes bankrupt in the US as a whole, do you think your FDIC insured dollars in the bank or under your pillow are worth any more than my shares of GE or Apple? No. If you don't have a lot of money (less than 20k) to invest in the market, then begin investing in mutual funds that you learn about from Morningstar. Take the time to educate yourself. It's worth it.

Some people say, 'LOOK AT ENRON!' Well, no one, including those people saving for retirement while working at ENRON should ever have had all of their money in one company! Wow. That just befuddles me. They had choices of where to put their money, but they placed it all in their own company (and that is especially a bad idea to do with the company you work for because it is a double jeopardy situation. They not only lost their jobs, they lost years of savings) But, ENRON is the exception. It really is.

If the US business environment over the next 20 years is such that you were correct to buy gold and stay out of the market then I will say that we ALL will be growing squash in our backyards and using dollar bills to do nifty paper folding tricks. tulsa
