Hollywood is back up and running at full speed. We would like everybody to know that this could be a temporary situation. We are trying to defend against the attackers but we are not sure at present if we are full-proof as of yet. Please to all the other books out there do not give into these extortionists. If you have down time so what, save the integrity of the industry.Paying these people just makes matters worse.

this things still sounds strange. What is the proof that the ass*oles who sent those EMAILs asking for western Union were the real hackers. My guess is that they know of the problems last week, and noticed hollywood being attacked and now emailed claiming to be the people and asking for cash. (the EMAILS do not sound like a Russian person to me). I think there are scammers trying to pretend like they are the people and seeing if they can get some cash. They are reading the forums? keeping up on the buzz? emailing many times a day? trying each time harder to get some cash? I just dont see it. Someone else is doing it and some loser is trying to cash in.

Regarding you second question, please be advised that Pinnacle Sports website is no vulnerable to hackers. What we experienced the other day was a A Denial of Service Attack. At no time was the traffic able to compromise the security of our client account information or any internal database information since the Pinnacle Sports firewall maintained the security of the site.

If you have any questions, please contact our 24 hour Customer Service Department at csd@pinnaclesports.com.

Usually when geeks do this and extortion is not involved, there is a political message to be made. There doens't seem to be a motive here unless there really is extortion.

If they were going to just go after someone to play around, far more likely targets would be:

-Mircosoft
-AOL
-RIAA
-MPAA
-A Political Figure
-A megacorp like Walmart or Ebay

There doesn't seem to be much motive to pick sportsbooks unless it really is a commerce-related extortion scheme. Either that or some geek just had a gambling problem and took it out on the books.

Funk-
They don't go after AOL, Microsoft etc., because those guys will find you. They have the tech, resources and law enforcement connections.

BillDozer-
Could you please explain your statement: "please be advised that Pinnacle Sports website is no vulnerable to hackers"

Have you bullet-proofed your connections or just paid off this particular group? Once other hackers figured out that you've paid, they'll probably come after you too. You would have been better off spending $30K on security software/hardware. I wish you guys luck, but no site is invulnerable to hackers (especially, if they only paid the ransom and didn't boost security).

Hollywood-
Hang tough! It's a battle, but every attack has a counter attack. If they are not going to get paid, they can only devote so many resources to attacking you. Attacks on you take away resources from attacks on other sites. How many sites can they attack at once?

DOS attacks generally are short-lived because the ISPs eventually get involved or the victims buy a DOS solution from some security company.

Java-your a smart man this has been Hollywoods position all along spend the money on equipment that can stop the DOS attacks.Once you pay these extortionists you have them bleedig you for years to come. These people will be found and prosecuted to the fullest. We are spending alot of money on this problem at present to not only stop the attacks but have these people found and prosecuted. We know of one book that payed and five hours after they payed there site was attack again and they were ask to pay an additional twenty thousand.Do not ask us to reveal the book that this happen to because we cannot reveal the book at this time.As time goes on this will all be rectify everybody just has to be patient. Hollywood-

Thanks for the compliment. It means a lot considering how busy you are. Giving into blackmailers is a never-ending situation. You are making the right move. Though the right move often requires some difficulty, it's the only one that gives you a real solution.

Now that the book you refer to has double-paid, are they going to hold out when the third request comes in, otherwise the hackers are on $20K weekly salary.

When they get caught, you should have a pool for which ones get gang-raped first in prison!
