He has been battling cancer for years. Unfortunately cancer usually wins.

cancer I believe... wasn't unexpected. but still sad

Just read article stating it was cancer in his salivary gland it was suspected that it was because of years of chewing tobacco. Sad.

No reason to smoke, dip or chew. Although maybe I'm a hypocrite to say that because I drink alcohol often.

15-time All-Star, 5-time Gold Glove winner, 8-time NL Batting champ, .338 career average. Legend.

RIP. 54 is way too young to pass away.

Without dip or chew, there wouldn't be a MLB. Sad but true. Even on the High School level (underage I know), I was the only one who didn't do it on my team.

R.I.P Tony

A true ambassador of the game and never heard anyone speak a bad word about Tony, a great player and even better person. Gone way way too early.

More Gwynn ridiculousness:

Hit .300 or greater 19 seasons in a row
Hit .381 against the "Big 3" for the Braves - Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz - in his career.
Had only 1, one! career 3 strike out game

Only struck out 434 times in his career. That is a season and a half for a lot of current MLB players.
