Forget play of the day, if there was any such thing as a play of the year this would be it.
The Flyers sit 5 points out of a playoff spot and this game tonight has to be put into the must win column. Philadelphia basically plays a AHL tonight at the ACC. If they can’t win this one, despite playing last night in Montreal, then they have no business being in the playoff picture.
Give them credit, under the tutelage of Mike Babcock the Leafs don’t take many nights off. However there comes a point where the lack of horses becomes a insurmountable hurdle. No Bozak, JVR, Komarov, Lupol, and much more leaves this team with a very average top six. Things aren’t much better on the defensive side after jettisoning Dion Phaneuf. Considering the Leafs are 8-16 at home this year, (mostly when they did have a full squad), leaves me wondering how could this line, (-115 at post), be so low. It makes even less sense when you consider the Flyers historical success in playing at the ACC 7-3. I don’t think this team will deliberately tank for the hope of winning the Auston Matthews sweepstakes but you have to believe it’s an incentive to gain the minimum of points.
I’m all over this.
Philadelphia -110 in regulation, (bought yesterday), and -.5 in regulation +135
