Detroit Red Wings -.5 +110 (in regulation)
-1.5 Units-

How important is captain Daniel Alfredsson to this Senator lineup?
This is what the Ottawa Senators did without Daniel Alfredsson last year.

11/24------------Philadelphia------L----------3-4
1/19-------------Tampa Bay-------L----------0-2
1/20-----------@ Philadelphia------L----------1-6
1/31-------------Boston-----------L----------1-4
2/2-------------@ Toronto---------L----------2-4
2/5-------------@ Montreal--------L----------3-4
2/7----------------Florida---------W----------5-4
3/5-------------@ San Jose--------L----------2-3 OT
3/6-------------@ Los Angeles------L---------0-2
3/8-------------@ Phoenix---------W---------4-2
3/11---------------Boston---------W---------4-1
4/4----------------Boston----------L----------1-2
Post Season
4/9-------------@ Pittsburgh--------L---------0-4
4/11------------@ Pittsburgh--------L---------3-5
(you could probably add on two more loses with Alfredsson in this series as he played but wasn’t healthy)

For those of you who are counting... 3-11 and out scored, 47-29.

The Red Wings have far too much depth and firepower for Ottawa, (with Marty Gerber in net), to compete in this game.

Detroit was embarrassed in their opener and should make amends in this one.

Chicago/Washington Over 5.5 +103

In this corner....Patrick Sharp, Jonathan Toews, Martin Havlat, Patrick Kane, Brian Campbell, Duncan Keith, Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin, Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green, Kozlov, Nylander, Fedorov……..

...and in the other... Jose Theodore/Brent Johnson and Cristobal Huet/Nikolai Khabibulin.

Let's get ready to rumble.

Looks Like Theodore in Net Tonight
Coach Bruce Boudreau wouldn't divulge who will start in goal tonight for the Caps against the Blackhawks, but Jose Theodore was the first off the ice in the morning skate at Kettler. Traditionally in the NHL the first goaltender to come off the ice is the starter.

Theodore also doesn't talk to the media on days that he's playing, and a team official said he would be unavailable this morning. So it appears all signs point to Theodore starting and getting a chance to erase the memory of his performance in last night's 7-4 loss to Atlanta

I am all over pretty much the same games as you. Like that over, and like Dallas as well.

Any thoughts on Montreal/Toronto? Looks like a lot of value with the Habs... considering they would probably be -170 or greater had the first two days of the season played out the way they were supposed to. B2B does not worry yet.

If you think Detroit was embarassed in their opener, how about Calgary? Tonight they seek revenge against Vancouver on home ice and should be a solid selection to outscore the visiting Canucks, maybe even the most solid selection on the entire slate of games for this first Saturday of the new NHL season.

I considered Montreal as there clearly is a huge difference in talent levels between these two teams. But then that was true when the Leafs played Detroit as well.

The problem I have with taking Montreal is….
1) They’ve got Halak in net
2) Back to back for the Habs
3) Toronto always plays Montreal tough no matter who wears the sweaters, (especially at home and on hockey night).
4) Away -130 favorite
5) I’m really impressed with the game plan that Ron Wilson employed against Detroit and it should work again with success against another speed/possession team like Montreal. And the Leafs have clearly bought into what Wilson is selling.

All that being said the Habs should win, but there has been so many crazy upsets already this season. I’ll watch this one with interest but no money invested.

Thanks for the input, Vic. Halak does not worry me, as I've always considered him to be good enough to be a starter. However, I am going to put a lot of thought into points 2-5 when I consider laying it down. Thanks for the input. Good luck tonight.... Chicago/Washington should be one of the early season games that will be dynamite to watch.
