Carolina Hurricanes - Edmonton Oilers
pick
Edmonton
For the third consecutive season, the Stanley Cup Finals will have a Game 7.
Jussi Markkanen made 16 saves to record his first career playoff shutout, and the Edmonton Oilers scored three times on the power play to force a seventh game in the Stanley Cup Finals with a 4-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes .
The 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs were the only team to come back from a 3-1 series deficit to win the Stanley Cup. They were actually behind 3-0 before beating Detroit. Vancouver (1994 against NY Rangers) and Philadelphia (1987 against Edmonton) rallied from 3-1 deficits, but both of those clubs dropped Game 7 on the road.
Game Notes
-Carolina has lost consecutive games in the playoffs for the first time since losing to Montreal in its first two games of the opening series...
Markkanen has stopped 100 of the 111 shots he has faced in the series...
-Carolina left wing Cory Stillman had his 13-game points-streak snapped.....
-Cam Ward allowed more than three goals for only the fifth time in 20 playoff starts...
-Pisani leads all playoff scorers with 13 goals...
-Carolina finished 0-for-6 on the power play.
"We were pretty lousy in all aspects," said Carolina coach Peter Laviolette. "We didn't have energy in our legs, in our skating, all the things that have been trademark for us all season long."
If not for several big saves by Ward -- including an extraordinary glove stop on Radek Dvorek at the end of a three-on-one -- the Hurricanes would have been beaten much, much worse. In the second period, they didn't get a puck to Oilers goalie Jussi Markkanen for more than 14 minutes. Edmonton had 21 of the first 24 shots and finished with a commanding 34-16 edge.
"We have not followed too many rules in this postseason," Oilers center Shawn Horcoff said , on the eve of the biggest game of his life. "I know we've been the underdog in most people's minds. But we really believe we can get this thing done."
Edmonton is one win away from pulling off one of the most remarkable surprises in playoff history.
Edmonton upset three higher-ranked teams in the Western Conference to
become the first No. 8 seed to reach the Stanley Cup finals under the current playoff format.
Just as the Oilers fed off the enthusiasm of their fans in Alberta, Carolina is counting on its crowd to be a major factor in the last game of the season.
Now, it's winner take all -- and the resurgent Oilers seem much fresher, much quicker, much more determined.
Edmonton, which converted only one of 25 power plays in the first two games, scored three of its four goals in the last game with the man advantage.
THe PP wil be decesive and it seems that Edmonton fixed this problem i will go with them this game.
In my opinion they deserve to win the Trophy.
THey will be determined and they came after they were 3-1 in the final.
I expect a great game for Edmonton, who is playing excelent those days.
The big presure is on Carolina.
For me
Edmonton 5/10
