Did you guys do it much? It was mostly a 60's and 70's thing. Good way to see the world and lots of cool places and things imo, like concerts. Looking back, it was fairly easy to get a ride. Even to places 2-3 hours away. I was very lucky. Had mostly good experiences. How about you all? wouldn't do it now if my life depended on it.

Hitch hiked around town all the time as a kid in late 60's. Started caddying at private golf course that was about 5 miles away when I was 13 and would hitch hike my way there and back all the time. Times were much different then.

I was stationed in Guam many years ago and hitchhiked around the island. For young enlisted guys having a car was a luxury. There were piece of shit cars that were passed down/sold by departing/transferring military that were called, "Guam Bombs". Getting a GB was a big deal for a young military dude. They were usually old rusted POS's but having one was great. If you didn't have one you had to take a taxi, base shuttle bus, or hitchhike.

Does uber count?

Speaking of Uber.

I had a kid from Saudi ask me if I would take him to Vegas, and he was DAMN serious. We did a fare estimate and it would be around $4000 to drive him. He wants to site see he said before going back in 2 months. It would probably be more. I declined, due to obligations I have here. But that would be a great trip, but I would have to drive back Empty. But I guess driving out to Vegas and back for 4K-5K isn't to bad. lol

This subject brings back many memories. In 1951 I was 18 & a lowly broke enlisted man. While in Az. I fell in lust w/my 1st wife. Enroute OS I went home to Mn. After many calls I was so lonely (horny) I hitched back to Phoenix, Korea was on, I wore my uni, made it in 3 days. Later @ a different time I reversed & went from Az to Mn. Then hitched from Mpls to Westover AFB Ma. Never again, those were adventures!!! A MUCH different time & place.
