Hillary will come out with a phony pledge to crack down on illegal immigration and the sheeple will fall for it. This will put her over the top in the electorial college. The republican canidate will run from the issue in fear of being called a racist, what a country we have become. The media will spin it for Hillary and say the republicans don't care about illigal immigration and it all comes together for Hillary. This is the only way Hillary gets a couple of red states to vote blue and I believe it will work.

You heard it here first.

If you think you saw rancor directed at Kerry, just you wait.....she might even get killed.

And she will get raked over the coals because as a lawyer she was in all the dirty deals-- she won't be able to play the innocent, long-suffering wife part.....

all she has to do is hire Karl Rove ....

Rove proved in this last election that if America will bite on the Moral pitch from Bush that anything is possible ...

Gameface, they ALL make phony pledges ....

I pray we have 2 "Normal" choices this time around ... a card of Clinton vs Rice would clinch that move to Melbourne, Australia

Judge,

She's a very slick politician. She's just slick enough to convince enough of the sheeple she's a middle of the road democrat that's strong on defense and by going out on a limb and claiming she against the open borders and she'll put a stop to it, should be enough to swing a couple of red states. Every time a state has voted on illegal immigration, welfare for illegals and for securing our borders the people vote against these illegal hand outs and open borders. Even the people in California voted against these hand outs and want their southern border sealed. This one issue could swing the election in Hillarys favor. The republican canidate will run from the issue giving hillary a huge edge.

Gameface:

Sounds very familiar: "She's just slick enough to convince enough of the sheeple she's a middle of the road democrat that's strong on defense" ---- flashback to the 2004 campaign: "Bush is just slick enough to convince enough of the sheeple that he stands for morals ..."

Yep, Hilliary, hire Karl Rove, honey, and you a lock for the White House!

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Former First Lady Hillary Clinton (news - web sites) is the early favorite among Democrats and ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani the top choice among Republicans as the 2008 presidential nominees, according to the Gallup Poll Briefing.

Asked who they wanted on the top spot of the 2008 Democratic ticket, 25 percent of the Democrats surveyed cited New York Senator Clinton, Gallup said.

Fifteen percent chose Massachusetts Senator John Kerry (news - web sites), who lost the November 2 US presidential election to George Bush (news - web sites), while seven percent opted for Kerry's running-mate, John Edwards (news - web sites).

Senator-elect Barack Obama of Illinois was the choice of three percent and former vice president Al Gore (news - web sites) the selection of two percent, Gallup said.

Asked to choose between Clinton or Edwards, 55 percent chose Clinton while 39 percent opted for Edwards, it said.

On the Republican side, 10 percent put forward Giuliani, who earned praise for his leadership of New York following the September 11 attacks, and 10 percent went for Arizona Senator John McCain, who lost the 2000 Republican nomination to Bush.

Seven percent chose outgoing Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites), while three percent selected President Bush (news - web sites)'s younger brother Jeb Bush, the governor of Florida.

Asked to choose between Giuliani, McCain and Jeb Bush, 47 percent chose Giuliani, 27 percent McCain and 17 percent Jeb Bush.

The poll of 465 Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents and 505 Republicans was carried out November 7-10 and had a margin of error of plus or minus five points.

Barring the Dems splintering up & not uniting behind one person, she'll likely win the Dem nomination-- no one on that side can raise even a fraction of the money & ratings that she can...

and on the opposing side, Giuliani should emerge as particularly adept at debunking all her spin: between his law background & NY residency, he should be able to dissect both her legal involvement in her husband's political & business shenanigans;
and more importantly her mediocre & useless work in Congress. He more than any other Republican should appeal to middle of the road voters-- for all this talk about values & conservatism having won this election, it's always been whoever's been best able to communicate on a personal level w/ John Q. Public, to basically make him/her believe,"I am more than capable of solving any problem that comes up, I will always strive to do the right thing, and when I speak you can take what i say to the bank."
Specific issues are not as important as the persona-- they gain importance to the degree candidates are evenly adept, or mediocre-- in communicating with the average American.
Giuliani proved all of this when stumping for Bush in the recent election: he far, far outdrew in both contributions & ratings all other Republicans, including the President himself. Anywhere he showed up, at any odd hour whatsoever, he would attract the public & press like a rock star: he speaks for hours off the cuff instead of reading from a script, and when he's done, audiences tend to surge forward & want to engulf him.

Something else he'll have working in his favor in 4 years is the budget deficit: he conquered the monstrous deficit & near bankruptcy in NYC. He just has a proven track record no one can match: most state & city agencies in NYC, be they administrative, social, justice or law enforcement, were their own little fiefdoms, legally answerable to no one, be it Governor or Mayor; yet he reined them all in & took the city from the edge of bankruptcy & leading the nation in crime to the total opposite: triple A bond ratings & lowest crime rate. He instituted personal responsibility & accountability at all levels of government & was able to improve all major economic & infrastructural indicators & crime statistics from year to year for 8 years running....

He's likely the next President-- barring retirement or health issues.

Hell, four years from now you might be voting on whether or not Dubya gets a third term....

....he might just outlaw term limits and declare himself King George, ruling over the entire planet.

Rob:

If you read his book you'll readily agree....it's an eye opener of how much knowledge he possesses, how involved he is with even minutiae(he was a big believer in stats & constantly improving on accepted industry norms: he often knew more about the locale / agency than the person running it-- how many potholes there were in a particular area, the average service response time-- even the average phone answering time of his particular department to a citizen complaint, how many trucks were out for repairs, etc.), how his management style of demanding specific & detailed accountability while rewarding those who meet short & long-term goals gets results.

Most previous mayors had given up on many inherent problems in NYC as too complex & long-running to be solvable-- & a necessary price to pay for being in the capital of the world. Not he: he rolled up his sleeves & formulated plans of action for each problem-- with daily, weekly, monthly, yearly goals... & daily control center meetings. His managers / commanders had better be prepared to answer any direct query with specific details, to show constant solving of problems & progressive numbers improvements-- or at the very least an admission that an unsolved issue did exist & the steps they were taking to deal with it-- or they were gone: no one could get away with any bs answer / fudging of details.
For example: the Mafia had always run waste carting, most deliveries of goods in NY, certain unions in a particularly brazen way, etc.: he cleaned up most of that.

This is why he was so prepared for 9/11. He already had for years a command center & regular 7am meetings with all department & agency heads in place & getting concrete & quick results-- with no small detail spared: inventories, budgets, maintenace & repair logs, etc. were scrutinized for required performance quotas, you name it. He had a televised show from City Hall(besides also a separate radio call in show)where he and his agency heads & other managers in person handled any query or problem from a walk-in audience.

1. Re the general public: he basically believed in these basics: improving the daily quality of life & infrastructure for his 'customers' the citizens. His budget & revenues came from their taxes... so he set out to improve conditions to attract even more citizens who would spend even more money. He also pro-actively sought to foment business development & lower taxes.

2. Re the inner workings of government: it boiled down to preparation, performance & personal accountability.

He is not someone who flies by the seat of his pants, or basically hangs out all the time: he works long & hard hours-- and is prepared for all eventualities.

charles....your write up on Rudy is probably the reason he'd never make it as president.....

He's too ready and willing to shake the system up, and actually looking to get something done.....very much someone we could use in office that could prove an asset and an achiever, just don't see his fellow politicians going along with all of it, in fact I think Rudy would make them rather nervous...

Call me cynical but this would shake up the "good ole' boys" network.....

Would be nice to see Washington rebuilding America instead of making sure Iraqi school teachers are overpaid.....

I think people are missing some points here. One is why would Rudy or Hillary really want the job? To me the Presidency seems to be for ego-maniacs that feel they aren't respected enough. People that some think should be in the role turn it down for the mess it creates for their lives when they already have all the stature and admiration they could want. Look at Powell, why has he never run for any office? Isn't he a man you would think would run? I think the same thing about Rudy, he is well loved by all people, on both sides of the aisle. He has a sketchy history which surely will get put in front of people endlessly. You all don't think his opponents would all treat his little infidelity lightly do you? The more things go on, the more I think Hillary would feel the same. Eight years of being in that fishbowl has to be enough for anyone.

What it does aspire to are people that get goosed up by the people around them that say "you need this, the national stage is yours to take" and they run. Governors are surely the likeliest targets for this. So much will happen though in 4 years it is crazy to speculate too much on it.
