I would rather live in 1959 to be honest with you.

But...

1959 had its own set of problems for sure.

Kind of extreme ends of the spectrum. A happy medium is probably whats best.

We cant seem to agree on a happy medium though. Our thoughts and views as a society keep going in the direction of the extreme 2009 views unfortunately....

this is what happens, when schools are consolidated..

we may be closer to going back to 1959 than many realize..

Local Communities will be making a comeback..

Hometown banks, insurance agents, small farms....

everything goes in a cycle and we are close to going back..

thank goodness

A trip back would be nice.

It will never be the same though.

We have had a serious breakdown of the family here in the good ole USA.

That is our problem.

we could get back, it will take alot of pain though...

i live in the south, where we are much closer to the 50's...

kids can still chew tobacco here and drive tractors, along with hunting with their favorite shotgun..

no joke, my 8yr old cousin, helped my mother out this weekend by shooting a groundhog for her.. not to eat but to keep it out of her garden.

im sure most here cant even come close to relating to that..

I would love to go back.

Now Im not sure I would want my 8 year old spitting tobacco, but...

Im a teacher and HS football coach. Ive lived in AZ my whole life. I would love to raise my family in old school America. Just aint gonna happen.

Anything close to it out here and you have to move to a small town. Most small rural towns in AZ are either overun with the illegal immigration problem, meth towns, or Morman communities.

Not that I have anything against Mormans per say. They are good people. I just wouldnt fit in there and neither would my family.

On top of it all? Im with the 50% of people in the PHX area who are upside down in there mortgage. The only way I could move would be to foreclose and ruin my credit.

Im riding it out....

a depression could take alot of people back..

i remember when i was young, lots of us chewed tobacco, as say 12yr old kids and no one even thought anything about it.... i remember carrying Redman in my pocket in my baberuth league uniform........ it was normal.

my old high school was consolidated in 1979 and that is still a bleak day for our community but several other local schools have kept their local small high schools..

We are doing the best we can here Zit.

My wife has to work, but we are blessed that I work at a private school where my wife also works and our daughter gets free tuition.

Our 2 year old son is in daycare less than a mile from our school in a private home setting. We trusted her based on referals and she is awesome. Its a pretty penny but worth it.

Trying to work around the "system" but it is tough. We make the most out of our family time on the weekends and our trips to school (work).

When I lived in Ramona, Cal. I once saw a foot-long rat in the swimming pool.

I got buck fever and put 5 rounds in him.

I then excitedly got my wife to show her how I protect our home.

Since she was raised in the country, she took one look and said: "That was a possum, stupid."

Today, I might have been picketed by PETA.

Boy, I sure do miss the Good Ol' Days when parents and school officials could physically assault teenage kids and everyone thought it was pretty much okey dokey.

:hammerit

The couple of quips about hysterical policy response to teenagers with OTC pain relievers do deserve emphasis. I'm glad my own kids are now graduated from the public school system.

I honestly never heard that there used to be a problem with parents
and school officials assaulting teenagers?

My high school basketball coach used to hit us with the knuckle upside the head. He called it "swift country justice".

We all thought it was funny, but had respect for him at the same time. Because we were MEN in the making and knew his true intentiions. To make MEN of us.

I went back to my alma matter and won a state football title as a coach there. Who was my DC? That same coach.

He has changed through the years and no longer uses the "swift country justice", but kids respect him just the same.

Close to the same situation here... My wife teaches at a private
school, which pays for my 3 kids to attend.

I was spoofing on the two anecdotal quips in OP where the father whips his teenage son with a belt and the other where the principal smaks the kid with a wooden board.

I've lost track. Is that 4 names you've called me today? You seem very angry. Perhaps you should pray for a better temperament.

Someone posted this before. It was funny the first time. I think everyone found it amusing because it has some good unintentional humor in it. You can tell the author is trying to be serious even though what he writes is dumb as hell.

If being a successful businessman is as easy as getting whipped with a belt, by all means please spank me!
