Forty sheriffs from all across Oklahoma gathered for their annual "meet and greet and lobby" at the state capitol, but every one of them walked out after they were asked to disarm by a senator, KTUL reports.
The senator who made the request was not revealed. One sheriff, Bob Colbert, said no one would say the senator's name and were only told that he complained because the sheriffs were armed. The choice was disarm or "there's the door." Colbert said:
So we all packed up and left.
Colbert continued:
We're the people that protect these people. If the state troopers are satisfied that we're OK in that building, I'm pretty sure that the legislators should have something else to worry about such as the economy or something. Pretty sad day for me.
