Just wanted to say hi. I'm new to this forum. I would regularly post on two other forums but they have both been shut down/overrun by SPAM. I'm a huge fan of the sport and go to 5-8 games a year. I went to the Championship last year and it was awesome. It had a more white collar and family feel since the tickets priced out the majority of drunks and unruly fans. I already have my plane tickets booked and team ticket requests in for this year. I'm looking forward to a great season in T minus 72 days and 7 hours.

Seeing as you are from Austin, we look forward to your takes on Texas. An interesting team in a very unsettled conference to say the least.

I'm actually not a Texas fan. I'm a relocated Midwest guy. Naturally all the talk on radio and everywhere is all about UT football. They are too unsettled at QB to do much. Strong will get Texas back to a fringe top 10 team but it will take a few good recruiting years. I think Texas might start 2-4 this year. Their schedule is front loaded.

Welcome aboard. Looking forward to your inputs. What sites were you posting on that shut down/spammed?

Athlon and Overtime Heroics. Athlon was good about 5 years ago but they deleted their forum link from the main page (ensuring no new members) and stopped trying to clean up SPAM. OTH had about 25 guys but they merged with another site that made you open a betting account to join and post. It felt very shady.

Well, this place has about 10-20 "regulars" in the off season. Once the season begins it's every asshole coming in here with their "can't lose" picks of the week! There are some good posters, but it's a completely different place during the season.

Welcome aboard. I've never been a big Athlon fan myself. As for UT, I thinks it's good for them in this case that their schedule is front loaded, giving that just about everybody else in the conference is back loaded. Because of it the Horns will probably sneek in an upset somebody late. If there is a team to bet in the last month of the season I think it will be Texas. There's nothing like a slow start and the other good teams in the conference beating themselves up to give you some line value in November.

I'm just wondering if Athlon is near the end of the line. Their Rags are certainly nothing like they used to be. Here is something that really surprised me. According to Athlon, as of 2011 they were the #1 seller of Football Rags. Yes, ahead of Rag master Steele. The major difference is that 2/3rds of what Steele prints to totally not needed. But still, Athlon outselling them? Of course if you look at all of the other rags that have gone down the tubes, like Don Heinrick, Jim Feist, and others nothing would surprise me.

Part of the reason why they had higher sales is because Athlon used to release their magazine a couple weeks before all of the others. Since all of the football nuts are ready to read just about anything football in June, they are willing to buy a copy of Athlon just to hold them over.
