The two mentioned are terriffic.

You may also want to check the poker room out at WSEX.

They have some really great promos running this month!

If you're a loose player (ie. play more starting hands than average) I recommend PokerStars at www.pokerstars.com but if you're tighter than average then I suggest either PartyPoker at www.partypoker.com or UltimateBet at www.ultimatebet.com

Why does it matter? My theory is that Stars software has action flops programmed which helps looser players and hurts tighter players. It's just a theory, but I'm not alone in believing this.

Darryl-

I read your first paragraph and did this

.....then I read the second.

When you say that it "hurts" tighter players what do you mean?

I've heard the same thing about Stars and always guessed that the "tighter" players do not win as much there because there are more "tighter" players there not necessarily because of "action flops."

Tate..I would be careful there. I think the players are MUCH better at Stars. If you can get beyond the fact that Party's/Empire's software stinks I think that place is better for beginners, IMHO. With that said, if you believe Darryl's action flop theory then by all means, play at Stars.

hey tate,

What are you looking for?
The biggest games?
Most Players?
Best Graphics?
Bonuses?

I like http://www.TruePoker.com they have nice graphics and a free roll tourney every other day. Free to signup but pays out like a real tourney. They have free rolls with prize money from $200 - $1000.

Well I could "hook up a brother", but there are no brothers around to hook up

But if there were, then I would say pokerstars

Hey tater, I read a post at b2g that Olympic has a new poker site called pokerworld.com and they are offering a 50% sign up bonus!

It might be worth checking out.

Swami,

The theory is that with action flops the bad hands catch something on the flop more often than they should, so the good hands which need no help are not as strong as they would normally be. It tends to make the whole thing a crapshoot which keeps everyone in the game longer and maximizes their rake.

Don't ask me to prove it because I can't, but I do remember a respected poster on RGP talking about a potential poker site operator inquiring about software and being asked "do you want regular or action flops?". It was believable to me and even if there is only a 50% chance that it's true, it's enough for me to make up my mind about where to play.

In a nutshell a beginner looking for action should go to PokerStars IMO but if you are looking to take it seriously and try to make a living at poker, then either party or ultimatebet is better IMO.

Darryl-

I know and understand the theory, I read RGP daily.

The rake maximization argument does not hold water because without "action flops" the site would STILL maximize rake due to the strucutre and poor players. If you have ever played live hold 'em at low/middle limits you know what I mean. 4 or more players seeing the flop AND turn in raised pots is NOT uncommon. That max rake is taken on almost EVERY pot.

The only theory I could buy, sort of, is the idea that there are not "action flops" per se but "action boards" where the "looser" players do win due to river cards.

Since people are generally unscrupulous when it comes to money, I cannot put it past Stars to have a desire to keep poorer players in the game and raking the money acr_oss the board a few times. (Although I do not believe this to be true.) Play headsup a few times online and what the money disappear not due to one player beating another but the rake.

The point of my post is that there is one thing on which we (who have played at Party and Stars) can ALL agree....the players at Stars are generally better than the players at Party and there are more table choices at Party than at Stars.

Since the action flop theory cannot be proven or agreed to why make your decision on where to play based on some theory that it helps "looser" players (and beginners who are probably loose)? It would seem that a beginning player would only lose FASTER when playing with better players UNLESS the action flop theory is TRUE. WOW...trust your poker funds/bankroll on an "action flop" theory....does not seem wise.

Frankly, I do not care where the poster chooses to play, there's 30k people at Party. I just wanted to provide a logical response based on what myself and most others believe to be true, not based on a conspiracy theory.

Dante-

It is a just a poker newsgroup that I found a few years ago. It actually SUCKS big time these days but there are still a few gems posted there. I read it via Outlook but you can use google groups to access it as well.

rec.gambling.poker is the group's name. If you have Outlook and use newsgroups I'm sure you know how to add it. If not go to google...click the "groups" tab and follow the link for "rec." then you will see "rec.gambling" then go to "rec.gambling.poker." That is it. A better site for poker theory is twoplustwo.com and their poker forums.

BTW, I want a cut of your increased profits after reading the boards above. Keep the info to yourself.

If you have a WSEX account...try their room. I used to play there and it is decent despite the fact that they have few players.

Are there any sites that do not require for one to log on to a server (party poker)? Or does anyone know a way to override a firewall so one can log onto a poker server. Thanks.

If you do not have an account with party poker or if you only have a play money account through www.bettorspub.com you can get a free $50 or they will match you up to $100 deposit. This is a special bonus and you have to write to info@bettorspub.com to get it. I write for the site so I will also give a plug for the $2500 free basketball contest that starts this week.
