Tiger Woods looks good and sounds good. He said as early as Sunday that he "has all the shots.'' He's looked impressive in practice. But now that the Hero World Challenge is about to begin, it is probably best to temper expectations -- always a tough ask with Tiger. He's playing against a field that has won more than 20 tournaments around the world this year, including 3 major championships. None are ranked outside of the top 38 -- and he is 898. And he's not played for 15 months in competition. A good week here is less about results, more about health and progress.

This tourney two years ago was the initial attack of Tiger Woods' chipping yips. First test from around the green this week comes on the third hole: Knocks it to a foot. Birdie.

Pretty strong par save for Tiger Woods on 14, as he rolls in the 15-footer from the fringe. Gives it a little fist pump, which is more than he did for any of those birdies. Knows he needed that. Still 2-under with four holes to play.

A club drop off the tee and a backwards pitch shot lead to double-bogey for Tiger Woods on the 16th hole. Drops to 1-under for the round.

Double-bogey at the final hole and that's a 1-over 73 for Tiger Woods in his return. Certainly not awful for a return after 466 days away, but dropped five strokes over his last 10 holes.

Through eight holes, Tiger Woods was tied for the lead. After finishing, he's in 17th out of 18 players.
