the over yes , but the Cougars with one of the worst Def in the nation. Spooky, but if your favorite QB Timmy Chang's cousin plays, you have a good chance.

Timmy Chang is so over-rated. Hawaii needs to start recruiting in the mainland. All these local products they get just don't cut it when they play real teams like USC, Michigan etc. Even though they beat inferior opponents, tey are still a joke to me.

ChadC, now dont take this the wrong way, it is only FYI. Timmy Chang will be the All Time NCAA passing leader by the middle of next year. The All Time Leader. Now that does not seem to be something that is accomplished by average or even above average players. Heisman Jason White didnt do it. Eli Manning couldn't do it. BJ Symons couldn't do it. And many more couldn't do it. Case Closed. Now as for local products that play for Hawaii. Oh yeah , by the way, Timmy Chang was recruited and turn down teams like ND, Mich St. , USC, UCla , Wash, Oregon, Colorado, Texas, just to name some of the more known schools. There are many more. Now, I dont think these schools felt this guy was overrated at all. Ok back to the local guys from Hawaii. Well this past draft, there was three local boys that was drafted out of UH in the first 5 rounds. Manuwai , Hunter, and Tinoisamoa. All start as rookies for their teams. Next years draft, I am suspecting that these local products will also be drafted highly. Travis LaBoy, Chad Owens, and Def linemen Issac Sapoaga. Oh and also, I dont want to leave out the number one draft choice of the Denver Broncos Wr Ashley Lelie. Thats right he is a local boy from Wahiawa on the island of Oahu. Now, there have been in the past years no other mainland recruits who came close to being drafted at all from Hawaii. So its not the local players that are the problem. The problem is we need to get better athletes from the mainland. Hawaii has for the last 10 years had one or two High Schools ranked in the top 20 of all HS in the nation. This is from just our small island. So we got some big time talent here in the islands to chose from, beleive me. These guys that I just mentioned who got drafted, was not even highly recruited out of HS. In fact Asley Lelie, Chad Owens, and Wayne Hunter were all walk ons who earned schlorships. One thing that makes it hard to get markey players to come here is primarily due to the distance from the mainland. To come and live and play here, you need to be a grown man and mature, because you cant just get in a car and drive back home into the comforts of your family and friend. Something that you can do on the mainland. But more importantly then getting mainland talent, is our ability to get our stud players to stay home and play for Hawaii. You know how many local boys left to go and play for the schools on the mainland. Here are some examples, Olin Kruetz center for the Bears and Dominic Riola of the Lions. We do our best, and it will get better now that we have June Jones at the helm, more and more star local athletes are staying home to play because of him. Alot more players from the mainland will want to come here as he knows how to get them to the NFL. That is a plus having him. Now as far as being a joke, did you know that Hawaii just beat the All-Time NCAA Champions in football, and school with legendary status, Alabama. The last time I looked Alabama was a real team. In fact, they almost beat Oklahoma. I dont think that a team like Hawaii with its local born players who beat Alabama , can be considered a JOKE. I think that your comment is a JOKE. But hey this was just for your FYI. Aloha CC.

oh yeah, lastly each year we have more local athletes who make the all conference teams then any other players for Hawaii who are from the mainland. Just another FYI for you to think about.

Local boy from Hawaii Ashley Lelie is tearing it up, he is now over 100 yards in receptions. Heid this in College as well. ChadC dont you remember when Hawaii played #14 ranked Fresno St. led by Texans Qb David Carr ,for the WAC Championship and we beat them when local boy Lelie caught the TD pass as time ran out to get us the win. Another example of the Hawaii local boys not cutting it, HuH. BTW, Fresno that year beat many ranked teams on their way to getting their own ranking. I know that Fresno, Wisconsin who they beat, Oregon St, and others are all real teams as well.

I agree CC. Hawaii has a lot of talent, especially per the amount of folks on the islands. Hawaii has got some studs.
Chad--Hawaii is a long way from being a national power. The national powers have to take the best recruits from all the states. Look at OU, they have more Texans on their team than Oklahomans. Look at SMU-here in Dallas, going winless on the year. Why-they get second tier recruits because all the best talent in TX is going to OU and TX right now.

MFG, another factor, is the money schools has in their athletic budgets. Big time schools have big time money, and that gets them big time facilities, which attract big time players. Only until Jones came to Hawaii, was there any real push to increase the budget for the football program, in order to hopefully lead to the results that the other schools have. But you know that whole argument about money should be spent on education and not on sports, or the other stupid one , that the money in the sports budget should be equally divided or shared among all sports programs. Here is an example of the big difference in the sports budgets of a big time school and one trying to be big time. Alabama's football budget is approx $14 million a year. Hawaii's budget for the entire sports programs at UH is $14 million. WoW, that is an incredible disparity. But the future continues to look brighter each year, now that we have a new AD and School President. They seem to know what it takes to bring Hawaii up to the standards of other schools and athletic programs. It just takes time.
