If Gerber can turn it around, (and I believe he will), Ottawa suddenly has a solid one/two tandem in nets. Absolutely essential to have two quality goalies to make the playoffs in the eastern conference with so many teams capable of making the post season. For this reason I think you can forget about N.J. What happens if Broduer goes down? What happens if the workload finally takes it's toll? They certainly don't have the offense to carry them.

Bruins are in the same boat. They must have Thomas to continue his spectacular play. I have my doubts on that. Toivonen must rebound and contribute. Otherwise they still need goaltending in my opinion. The B's defense has bought into Lewis' version of the left wing trap as it was so successful in Detroit. So far...so good. The question is, do the Bruins have the personnel Detroit had three years ago to keep it effective another 50 someting games? They can look very sloppy with the puck in their own end at times. Especially Chara.

My dark horse in the east?
Watch out for the Islanders

For sure, perhaps as VETERAN of a team as any in the conference.

Went to the ISLES/TB game a week ago or so here in Tampa and came away being very impressed with the Isles. A team that will seldom beat themselves.

Don't count the Champs out yet, either.

Throw the first 14 days of the season out and they playing almost as good as anyone.

Your right, STRONG CONTENDER.

I wanted to say the same thing, Only 2 teams have more goals than Ottawa this year

-Buffallo and Anaheim.

If it wasnt for absolutely horrible goaltending from gerber they would be at least 16-10 instead of 14-12 (probably much better).

Didn't I just say that? Oh well I know very little about hockey.

I think Alfredson & Redden were out in Washington last night.
Bryan Murray wasn't happy with the officiating on some goals:

Thanks

Would like to see the CAPS make the playoffs..........it would be good for the NHL to get A. Ovechkin into the postseason limelight.

Its very strange if you look at the FIVE teams from the 9th-13th spot in the standings...........all very intriging teams in my estimation.

CAPS
BRUINS

Not really

Liked PITT in a 2-Team teaser but really do not like any other side to put them with.

Looking at the ATL/TB NHL total OVER this evening currently.......but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Still debating a few NBA plays also.

too many problems on Ottawa to even start, but I'll try:

-Gerber (as a goalie I could go on about his problems for hours, and have - but mainly, he's incredibly slow laterally, coughs up absurd rebounds, and overuses the butterfly)
-Line combinations (break Spezza/Heatley up, recognize the capabilities of Hamel & McAmmond, when Redden's healthy don't pair him with Joe "Turnover" Corvo, etc...)
-Lack of respect from other teams (teams can run Gerber, no one takes Neil seriously anymore, they can pick on the flashier players and get nothing for it)
-Obviously playing in a tough schedule due to the division they're in, but b2b at home vs. NYR then in Columbus the next night, b2b earlier in the week doesn't help.
I'd like to see the following players gone:
Redden, Gerber, Corvo, Spezza, Neil

and finally, the biggest surprise that doesn't get recognized EVER (that I've heard, and I live in Ottawa) - Tom Preissing, with a Plus/Minus of 19.

Corporeal this is the first time I masturbated after reading a post. Thank you for the pleasure. The only thing better is watching the Leafs lose. I wish I knew something about hockey but since my team won in the east semifinals last year I haven't been following hockey.

OTTAWA (CP) - The Ottawa Senators are one frustrated bunch.

The Senators appeared to be turning the corner earlier this month following a slow start to the season, but with goals pouring in their net at an alarming rate lately, the losses are mounting along with the frustration.

On Wednesday, the day after Ottawa suffered its fifth loss in its past five games with a 7-2 defeat at home against the Boston Bruins, tempers flared when forwards Chris Neil and Antoine Vermette tangled at the end of practice.

Ottawa will definitely make the playoffs this year and are better than a .500 team. Ray Emery is showing he is one of the best goalies in the NHL and signing Gerber especially to whatever it was at 3.5M/year was a huge mistake. I never thought he was a #1 goalie and I thought last year Emery played well when Hasek went down. Alfredsson, Heatley, and Spezza are putting up points now so they are fine.

actually, ottawa has been a 500 team since last year december.... so its not like it has been this year only..... since then they have lost key players and an all star goalie.... which leads me to beleive they will continue to be a 500 team.

the linesmaker continues to respect the Sens with ridiculous lines such as -200 against boston, and -200 tonite again against Tampa Bay.....

Ottawa is a classic team which is 'perceived' as an elite team, respected as an elite team by the bookmakers, BUT IS NOT AN ELITE TEAM.....

I highly suggest fading the sens at these exagerated prices.
