Kirk Herbstreit, known for his sometimes ridiculous predictions, has apparently suffered some type of head injury, as evidenced by his picks for the four teams to make the playoffs. Here they are:

1. Ohio State. To be expected because everyone and his/her mother has picked Ohio State.
2. Oklahoma. Right, if you believe that two Big 12 teams will fold like cheap tents. OU defeating Baylor in Baylor?
3. LSU Tigers. I am sure that this makes both Alabama and Auburn very happy, not to mention Georgia.
4. Arizona State. He predicts ASU over Stanford in the Pac 12 CC. So much for USC, UCLA, Arizona and Oregon.

Feel free to comment on this rather weak attempt at comedy, or predictions. The odd man out is SEC Champ Georgia Tech, according to Herbie.

Never heard of Herbie hitting the bong or such....

...sounds like he broke out the pipe for these selections.

I kind of like Arizona State myself. But they have a fairly brutal schedule having to start the season against A$M and playing USC and UCLA back to back and drawing Oregon from the North. But most of these big games are at home where ASU seems to play much better. I can tell you right now that nothing would surprise me this year, and a lot of people are going to be eating their words on this board at the end of the season.

As soon as i heard - pretty much instant with ESPN alerts - i tweeted Herbie. As if he will respond, but maybe cause he actually does a great job of getting back to folks.

I said basically, you are either brilliant or will be looked at as absolutely in left field with no understanding of the game...I think we have to acknowledge his elite perspective and knowledge and recognize that 1-2 names get there from his list. But to call that list out going with 3 wild cards is absurd.

Here is how i grade his picks:

Ohio State - i think this is risky, even though most consider it a sure thing. I think MSU can knock them off and take their spot. His only normal pick is at risk.

LSU - for a school that can't find a QB EVER against the schools in the WEST SEC, i don't see it. In fact, i am confident that the entire WEST finds themselves sitting out this year. SEC will NOT make playoff. Arkansas, Miss State, LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Auburn will cause so much carnage...upsets, unexpected wins, they send 1 team to SEC playoffs and WIN but won't make finals. Do not confidently bet on SEC WEST games this year, please.

Arizona State - schedule too tough as Sooners said. UCLA will not make it through schedule with fresh QB, but watch out for USC. I think they make the big dance. I am not big on Oregon this year, i think they regress. I think ASU has a shot but too tough to make the playoffs.

Oklahoma? REally? Um, see Baylor or TCU. I think TCU is the team that makes the dance this year and maybe that is my bad pick of it all but no one can convince me that a team that got their teeth curb stomped against Clemson in the bowl is playoff bound the following year? No way.

Sorry Herbie...not sure i can support you on this.

My picks:

USC
TCU
MSU
Clemson

Did your buddy Herbie get back to you? Your picks are worse than his. USC is a huge crap shoot with the problems that Sark has with the bottle. If he is a big drinker, he is going to have to go through some type of withdrawls. Baylor is a better team than TCU, who many people think is over-rated. We still do not know if they area one year wonder or not. Ohio State defeats Michigan State. It is that easy. Michigan State also has to get past Oregon. They have also lost a key starter in SR. OLB Ed Davis. Clemson will lose at least two games, and have already taken a major hit on their defense with the loss of starting SR. DT D.J Reader an back-up JR. SLB Korrie Wiggins. The offense loses starting SR LT. Isaiah Battle, and that is not real good for a gimpy QB.

Still waiting patiently by the phone for his tweet.

Okay, so my picks are out there as much as his. Clemson was my drunk add when i needed a 4th...i technically pick a new 4th spot every time i list my prediction...

I do think USC can emerge out of their conference. I do think, now that i was corrected that MSU is on the road at the Shoe, that OSU is a solid, easy pick. I also think it comes down to Baylor or TCU to emerge from the Big 12 - i can see either getting it done. I think Baylor has much more to replace then people think. The 4th spot? I have no idea - maybe it is a team from the SEC WEST...going to be tough though.

Thanks for trolling me, littledaddy.

I like your picks. Not sure about Clemson though. I don't follow the east coast teams much. Ohio st. Is the obvious pick but I like that you went against the grain there. Should be an exciting season.

You are a phony and I nailed you. It is that simple. I guess you must be buddies with Sark, because he uses alcohol for an excuse also. I am glad that you are beginning to come back to planet earth now that you have apparently sobered up to some degree, but do not try to pull any caca in here because there are too many people that have heard that from others a lot smarter than you. Try to B.S. us again and I will nail you to the wall again. Do you understand? Only a total fool predicts a team to win a conference based on where a certain game is going to be played and gets the wrong location. Do you have any idea of how big of a fool that makes you look like? I mean there are only about 1000 places you can get a Big 10 Conference Schedule.

Arent there also a 1000 places to get team totals? If that is your argument then there is no excuse to claim Alabama ov 8.5, MSU ov 7.5

LittleDaddy - "do you understand?" that's funny. do you stand when you type this stuff? do you seriously get upset?

Let's be very clear about this exciting new hatred you have for me.

I posted conversation about Michigan State. I got the location of their game confused and because i thought it was at home, i got excited about a 12 point line against Ohio State. "Total fool" is what that makes me, apparently. I actually enjoy drinking but apparently you cannot relate and have an issue with both me and Sark for enjoying ourselves.

I made a small fortune last year; i doubt you can relate. I actually have it all posted on twitter, which i provided you and everyone else a direct link to the page so you can look back yourself.

And now you are the tough guy making comments about nailing people to a wall...it's comical. You are a little girl...you sound really fucking stupid. keep monitoring the joint for phonies...you are doing a great job.

By the way, you haven't gone through my twitter feed yet and acknowledged you were wrong...i await your apology.

Silly little dude. Get mad!

Clemson is reaching. No way they have enough special teams to make it that far...

Just watched the North Dakota State/Montana game. What a hell of a game to start the college football season.
Number one as a 14.5 favorite loses to number 12 in the FCS. That Montana crowd of 26,000 made more noise than Alabama playing
Western Carolina with 101,000.

Back to Herbie's picks with a focus on Arizona State. I find it odd that #15 rated ASU is a dog to a non-rated AP top-25 in Texas A&M. I'm not a big fan of A&M, especially in SEC play but I will take them in the opener.
