no joke...you can buy a super basic keyboard for $20 or less

Buy one with the USB cord, rather than the rounded plug-in

Your laptop should have at least a couple ports for USB devices.

I recently sold my laptop but for the two years I was using it, that's how I typed because it's so much easier than dinking on the smaller sized laptop keyboard.

I am sure that on all future laptops I buy, I'll get a $20 keyboard with USB jack to carry along with it.

Only time it's not practical is in pure "laptop" use, like when I'm riding in a vehicle or plane.

Maybe time to buy a new one for $500 or so ? You'll get a fresh new battery ( about $100 right there).

Sell the old one to a place like :

cash for laptops.com

might get $100 or so for it.

Depends if you like to attempt SHIT like taking a laptop apart, to replace the keyboard yourself. I did it ( a year ago), but I'm legendary cheap.

You will pay $75+ in labor for it, and a pro will do it in 5 minutes.

Maybe you have a tech buddy ?

geeze: You can find detailed instructions on how to replace the keyboard yourself, for your model....but it's not easy for a novice ( like me).

http://kcoppock.wordpress.com/2007/10/19/howto-replace-keyboard-on-laptop-computer-hp-dv6105/

I paid over $100 for this service once....next time I did it myself...but I'm also the type that puts in my own flooring, decks, auto parts, etc.

I have about every hand tool known to mankind, and hate to overpay for services. $75 labor for 5 minutes burns my ass !

Probably replacing the unit is best ? $450 probably gets you a new one.

figure you get $100 for the old one, that probably needs a $100 batery anyway.

buy a new one:
