I found "Morrison Hotel" disc, it's track #2. I need some time before I play it. I need to buy a Dodge Dart and transcribe it to 8-track format.. give a few moments ...

that wasn't it either ! but a favorite oldie anyhow. I'm looking for the tune that would drive a transciptionist to pull her hair.

I'm down in the basement room cranking Mick, the Kinks, George Thougllygood, Jimmy M, P Floyd, Bob S, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc... I'll be here awhile... please e-mail me a "J" or a line.

Cool site Michael777

All hail the American night!

What was that?
I don't know
Sounds like guns...thunder.

(Roadhouse Blues cuts in here with Jim doing a little audience participation section at the end.)

...Alright! Alright! Alright!
Hey, listen! Listen! Listen, man! listen, man!
I don't know how many you people believe in astrology...

Yeah, that's right...that's right, baby, I...I am a
Sagittarius
The most philosophical of all the signs
But anyway, I don't believe in it
I think it's a bunch of bullshit, myself
But I tell you this, man, I tell you this
I don't know what's gonna happen, man, but I wanna have
my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames
Alright!

Doug J,

Texas Radio and the Big Beat from LA Woman is where he riffs on being "stoned immaculate".

Roadhouse Blues both studio and live is where he "scats" and improvises to the song ending up in "Ashen lady, give your vows" and the rest.

If you ever hear the live version of "Break on through to the other side" where he starts out with his "dead cat, dead rat" rap, this is another example. "The Center of the Earth" is simialr but not nearly as compelling.

Also, "The End" once he gets into the "weird scenes inside the goldmine" section is another example.

And his riff on the live version of "Gloria" alternates between comical and dark, all at the same time - when he goes into the scene where "she comes to my room, she comes to my house}...

That sounds like the right live version !

Was Morrison the grandfather of Rap, or the father of Rap ?

Doug J, have you tried the album An American Prayer?? I believe he recorded his poetry and then years later the surviving members put music to it.

There is some songs where Morrison "scats".

Tater I don't think so would like to go though.I'll have to make up my mind in the next week.

Also a snother song comes to mind would be (this is by memeory only) "Spanish Caravan" Ithink thats the name....could be turned into some sort of rap but then again it would be like putting a moustache on the Mona Lisa.

I'm no musician but I think most songs are just poetry with a tune (even rap)...Morrison was huge into poetry.

Yes, the End is rap, in a sense, also subject to a lot of interpretation. The West is the Best. Another you mentioned, Texas big beat. Stoned immaculate, one of my favorite lines of any songs. I think my boxed set has all of the lyrics. Anther FROG fave, Unkwown Soldier. Actually banned the video during Nam. I have the Doors video collection. LA Woman is pretty good. Five to one, another anti establishment. The unedited fuck version of The End is awesome. Crystal Ship, very symbolic, un Doors like.

Probably the first black rapper was Johnny Guitar Watson. Real Mother For You and Ain't That a Bitch, touch on inability to get ahead, being held down. But Jimmy Hendricks was also into social commentary, or a form of rap. If 6 was 9. Manic Depression. Castles Made of Sand. As far as quality listening, get either headphones or different side of room speakers and listen to Merman, I forget the entire title off the Are You Experienced?, again, even that song is a form of rap. All Along the Watchtower, We have to get out of here, said the Joker to the Thief. Pretty thoughtprovoking if you are coherent enough to think while listening.

Best Wishes...OF:howdy:

I thought one of the first rap songs was humpty dumpty:

Humpty
Dumpty
sat on a
WALL

Humpty
Dumpty
had a great
FALL

all the
kings
HORSES

and all the
kings
MEN

couldn't put
Humpty
Dumpty
to-geth-er
AGAIN!

E to the double G
