Some of you here are very intelligent about these machines. I'm not one of you unfortunately.

Lately--I have been having a lot of freeze-up problems. When I hit Ctrl-Atl-Delete buttons to unfreeze whatever is the problem ("End Task" as the computer term); I see where it says "Pelmiced (not responding)".
Sometimes when I hit end task--the mouse button will no longer respond and I am forced to shut down with the button (A BIG NO-NO). Anyway--what is this "Pelmiced" . That seems to be the word that I allways see.

Yes--I still have Windows98 and about a year ago-found on Microsoft page a fix for freeze-ups. It was a big help. But I don't know what this "pelmiced" is.

Olmantime, go hererun the free virus scanner..

You can also do a "do it yourself" diagnostic test by starting your computer, then hitting ctrl alt del and close one program at a time seeing if it's the culprit.

This problem sopunds familiar to the one I had a week ago except it would adjust my font size and screw up my mouse's scrolling wheel. The nasties I had running were called rmb20, zubul and others, when I would truy and close them they would open a different program in another name, very nasty...

Hope that helps

oldmantime, take a look at this link

http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_p.htm

It says in there that the process you are having the problem with is related to an ibm scroll wheel mouse, I hope you have one

If you have win98 second edition the best thing would be to disable that process

But let me tell you something, if you can upgrade to windows 2000 or xp most of these freezes will go away on its own, win 98's days are counted

Thanks to you all.
Yes--I have an HP Wheel Mouse. Bought a new one because the old one was sticking. That's when I started having the problem with more freeze ups.
After changing the mouse.
I don't hear much good about Windows XP.
Windows 2000 seems to be neutral.
Again Thanks!!
