It was a real tough call for me. I am somewhat of a carpenter, much more so than electronics guy.

I was mainly concerned about structural support of my plasma (big and heavy).

It was a big job, I took out a big section of sheetrock, re-enforced the wall (backing), ran wires thru walls (hopefully the right wires), replaced sheetrock, hung the 55" plasma.

I hope I ran the right stuff ! It works, but I probably should have run some extra shit, if I really knew what I was doing.

I could add a wire if needed, hopefully via snaking.

I'll more than likely just use the stand as it has to be placed in a corner. Our bedroom furniture prevents me from mounting it on any wall. Maybe I'll put in on the ceiling and watch it while I lay in bed.

In Houston, you could get some beaner carpenter (competent carpenter, even) to hang it for $30 cash, IMO.

I'd hang a simple wall-mount for $50, if it was really close to me.

I'd wall mount if it were me, unless I was renting. A corner wall mount works fine.

I don't get what furniture prevents a wall mount, $50 will get you a guy to mount the bracket, easy in Texas.

bracket maybe $60.

That's the way I'd go.

I noticed a big difference in the sound using HDMI. As far as HDMI cables go...get the cheapest one that does the job. The signal either gets there or it doesn't. High priced cables are a big con job.

With HD stations there really is not much difference with all the connections, maybe a little brighter with HDMI.

With HDMI cables you can jump from 720p to 1080i/p. The human eye on a tv less then 46 cant tell the difference between 1080i or 1080p but can notice a big change from 720. You just need a source to push that hd signal (hd player/hd movie) and with those hdmi cables the picture should be great. The biggest improvement is in the sound. HD sound is amazing and only the HDMI cables can deliver it. That is an amazing price on cables, going to pick a set up for my buddy for xmas.

I upgraded with Comcast to a bundle deal that includes telephone ( there's another recently bumped thread).

Installer came out Sat. to do his thing, but none of his boxes worked ( the new box includes DVR).

I had to go to Comcast office myself to change boxes, they gave me a 6' HDMI cable with the new box. I have it hooked up with the traditional cables presently.

Problem is I have the old-style cables run thru the wall already. I'll try it with the HDMI cable externally wired, and see if I can see any quality difference, will report back on that.
