Having to Select a (Four) Team Play-Off Slate Was Bound to be a Joke From the Start

When the (4) team format was enacted, anyone that follows college football and those meaningless rankings that are posted every week knew this scenario was going to arise: This year the dilemma is deciding whether Oregon, Alabama, TCU FSU and now Ohio State should be thrown under the bus. We are right back where we started. It happened every year in the past when one or two teams didn't get (voted) into the Championship game. Does any one believe there isn't (8) teams that deserve at least a shot at the National Championship? As usual, the NCAA has caused the mess they now find themselves in. An (8)team play-off would have solve the problem.

Now that we sit with the mess that is going to be exposed when they announce the (4) team slate.......
Leave it up to the NCAA

well lets face it,this is all an experiment year as it is the first year of this change.i think 6 teams would have been good and this way baylor and ohio st would be those 2 other teams, but we have to live with it for this year and move forward as we go on,....everyone has valid points in this subject

I think they could have "experimented" with an 8 team format (6 wouldn't have worked unless two teams would have gotten a (bye).

If they did, then the bowls get butthurt because they may be shut out of their money.

The only tradition in CFB is extorting money.

This is just fine the way it is. Let's give it a few years. The fact is that there will NEVER be a 16 team playoff, and there is absolutely no chance of an 8 team playoff until the playing field is level. That means the Big 12 (who will get shut out this year) MUST expand to 12 teams and get a CC game, because the other 4 power conferences have already done so.

I still think the real consideration the selection committee deal with is the thrashing Ohio State laid on Wisconsin last night.....
No one, not even the hard-core Buckeye fans, thought the game would end-the way it did.......

True. Ohio State completely dominated the #11 (13) team in the nation and held former Heisman Trophy hopeful Melvin Gordon to just 76 yards in 20 carries.

safe way out of this for the committee is to put 4 brand names into the playoff...

Agree although I don't think OSU is the 4th best team. $$$ and avoiding the Baylor/TCU debate means OSU will get in IMO. OSU is a much bigger national draw than either Baylor or TCU.

It will be interesting to see if the committee goes "public" as to what criteria they used to make their selections.
