This may be the biggest tragedy in the sports world ever....combining how his death was not self inflicted (drugs, suicide, speeding, etc.), how big he was in his sport, how globally renown he is, his daughter, etc.

So I admit I'm getting kind of tired of hearing about it. (I did like hearing about a 17 yo rookie Kobe and nobody Jimmy Fallon going on a beer run) But I just don't watch. I understand why there is so much coverage.

The ESPN coverage is understandable, but the major news networks for sure have given it too much attention.

Let's just slow down now.

I mean, Roberto Clemente's story was really tragic but not many of us here remember that situation.

I didn’t realize how much he impacted my life to be real with you. And I think a lot of people feel the same way. Yes I grew up at that time when he came into the league I was first watching and playing basketball religiously. But that was more of coincidence. I was more of a Lebron guy to be honest. I liked Kobe more when he changed the number and went keyser Soze on everyone. Finger on the trigger. That’s when the world started to like him when he was using all of us as pawns for his motivation. Enter the black mamba. That’s when the public started to fuck with him.

I think he impacted my life more when he retired. And I was watching hbo real sports and he’s talking about life after basketball and the things he was working on or was planning. That’s what impacted me the most. Seeing an athlete who just retired being as excited for his next career as he was for his first. And the hunger man. It didn’t stop. I admire that. How can you fucking not. I don’t admire couch potatoes man. I don’t. You guys might. Enflameo might. I don’t. Not about sports. Only sports athlete I’ve ever truly been inspired by was Brett Favre. Only because the man never missed a game. Other than that I’ve never really had a favorite player. Never really been super inspired by athletes in a way that changes my life. Kobe, I realize was probably the only athlete on the planet I feel that about. And I didn’t even know I felt like that.

Put it like this....enter any athletes name...if they were to pass tomorrow...would I feel sad? Most likely not. Kobe was different man. This cliche is weak as fuck but he legit made the world a better place

Favre's jersey is the only one I have ever owned

I remember when Michael Jordan's father was killed. Maybe 1993?

Imagine if this happened today with a top 10 athlete's parent was killed? The media coverage would be UNREAL

Murdered on the side of a N.C. or S.C. freeway if I recall? Think he pulled over to take a nap.

considering how much of a global sports star he was i really dont think its overblown at all.
the last 30 years of the nba went jordan-kobe-lebron as their biggest and brightest stars. considering how big the nba is globally i think this really is as big of a tragedy as its being made out to be.
the coverage is beginning to sound repetitive but i dont think you can downplay it all that much.

i dont watch the nba but the one thing i did like about kobe was his tenacity on the floor. kobe seemed like a guy that would have fit in during the physical times of the nba like the 80s and early 90s. his style was something i enjoyed, today its all flops and ticky tack fouls. he played a more physical game and played with a chip on his shoulder. he played 20 years in the nba, over half of his life was in the spotlight and for the lakers none the less. as a sports figure i really dont see another example of someone so large of a personality dying in such a tragic way. clemente was tragic but isnt as large of a sports figure while still alive.

It’s not a parent dying. It’s not a child dying(the worst of all I’m sure) But it’s about as hard as it gets for someone who doesn’t know someone else as long as you understand what this man brought to the table

Lot of lack of respect on this forum. You’re a problematic bitch nobody fucks with you Pullingqueers. Nothing makes me happier than knowing some bigot racists hate me. Thank you.

If I could I would report you. You’re a disgrace to this forum. You and your kkk buddies here are bunch of right wing extremist losers who take it up the ass routinely.

Dont you have some darts to throw in horsies? Got to be a horse race going on somewhere for you LOL.

Wasn’t too many years back when a father helped his son win the Daytona 500 and tragically died on the last lap.

I’m sure there are examples in almost every sport.

Enfuego, I don’t think it’s up to us to understand why someone reacts the way they do to a death, but be supportive or respectful.

As to whether I’ve had enough, if it’s something new I listen.

Yes, I get what you're saying and all but if someone I worked with told me they weren't up to coming to work because Kobe Bryant died, I'd tell them to get their ass to work.

waltrip won that daytona 500. when they came back to daytona in july at night and JR won that was one of the most goosebump feelings i have ever had in sports. first race back in daytona and he wins it. amazing
