Yup, I've done it too. You can cut it back if you feel like you need to keep putting something in there.

you people been buying historically overpriced equities since the early to mid 90s

401k and heavy bag holding mutual fund investing such a sham and being exposed finally.....

i can just invest in a basket of anything and i'll do well forever....LMFAO

now we are starting to dip into the undervalued territory

but since the overvalued area was historically the highest ever in 2000

chances are the undervalued territory could the historically the lowest ever in the future plus the fact that what savings the middle class does have is so heavily invested in equities gonna make this all the more painful as well

I have not made any changes. Clinging to the hope that the market will rebound.

It's pure insanity to stop contributing right now. You're going to wait until stocks are more expensive to buy? What kind of sense does that make?

I'm putting in 25% and I'm working overtime trying to figure out a way to move it to 30%.

Holy shit, no wonder most people are broke.

I agree with death. If you are assuming that stock markets will rebound, then now is the time to max contribute especially if your employer is matching.

Look for the stock market to go down to the mid 5,000 range...possibly lower...

401k right now is like throwing money out the window of a moving car. You might catch some of the flying money but there is a better chance it will be gone forever.

Complete horseshit.

Why is it so difficult to understand that if you're years away from retirement, this can actually be a good thing? Stocks like KO, XOM, JNJ, PG may never be cheaper in your lifetime. If you're 60, you're fucked. If not, this is a huge opportunity.

This lack of thinking is part of the reason we're in this mess.

I have around 23 yrs until retirement so I doubled up my 401K contribution to $600 every two weeks. My job also gives me a pension that will be worth about $7K/month when I turn 62.

Thanks for Incredible Dose of Common Sense

We have in fact not been contributing since Aug 2007 when SheBar left her previous nine year employer to join another operation.

And in that time our 401K dropped almost 20%.

However, we've agreed she will have her new employer hook us up beginning end of next month (soonest available) because NOW is the time to Buy Buy Buy

Looking to alter our base also by putting more emphasis on drug companies

the big caps the last to bottom in a bear

this is the big one

and they gonna be the cheapest in our lifetime soon

after being historically overvalued for the last 20+ years

:toast:

p.s. looking at historically dividend yields the big caps suck nards too but lower prices is taking care of some off that assuming they keep their dividend through it all....unlike the banks, GE, dow to name a few
