Their playoff run will probably end this year.
I do know they havent won a title since 2000........and in all liklihood will not be doing so for many years to come.
But these are answers I know.........Im still trying to gauge Yankee fans thoughts on their team and how they themselves percieve their team..........the thead is 100+ replies old now and no straight responses.

There maybe some billionaires who will step up and subsidize the $30 to $50 million per year revenue shortfall that a small market team would need just to keep a competitive team on the field for more than a couple of years, but not many.
Besides, why should they when it's MLB's responsibility to maintain competitive balance due to inequitable local demographics?
MLB has rocked steady with inequitable local demographics since at least the year 1920.
Every year in the past 87 years there's been about a shorter list of teams that had a legit chance to play in October than there were teams you were confident would not play in October.
But unlike the 1920-1968 range when only two teams in 16 (then 20) played in October with maybe six to eight being forecasted as having a chance; we are now up to where eight of 30 play in October, with a solid 12-18 having a legitimate shot every April.
I for one like having at least 20-30% of MLB teams in April being viewed as non-contenders for playoffs. They are the cannon fodder for the real contenders.
And don't pretend the NFL is much different.
Salary cap and all, come September there will be at most about 18-20 teams we view as having post season chances and a good 10-12 who we can be pretty confident will be home in January.
The cast of NFL postseason teams over the past eight years hasn't varied all that much either.

Yankee fans are as passionate as ever. The future looks bright with the young players they are developing and there is still the connection with the great run on the late 90's with guys like Jeter, Posada, Mo, Pettite. (Amazing string of Division Titles and World Series over the past 12 years)
Its true that this team isnt as good as in years past and likely not a World Series contender. Just as Red Sox fans suffered through decades of miserable teams that had little success and stayed loyal to their team, Yankee fans are as strong as ever.
This year brings lowered expectations that give way to a strong future and more championships. This year reminds me of 1994-1995 when you could see the team coming together with the mix of vets and raw rookies.
The future looks very bright and this is the first time in a long time that you can really get excited about prospects deveopling and not just the next big name free agent signing.
Great time to be a Yankee fan unless you are short-sighted enough to judge on one down year and not look at the bigger picture.
Yankees are so good they don't even count division titles or WS appearances. Kids in High School have never seen them miss the post season. My 2 year old has seen the BOSOX miss out.
Fish you are so lucky to remember maybe 4 GREAT YEARS as a Red Sox fan in your lifetime. It's apples and oranges.
