I grew up with the board game...was very addicting, especially for anyone into stat tracking. I used to keep notebooks full of box scores, standings, league leaders.
little fun fact in the 1977 edition so-so relief pitcher bob lacey was a monster against left handed batters he was a lefty of course...unless the dice came up the hitters card a lefty couldnt get a hit off of him.......he tired at one inning but if you needed one guy to get babe ruth out.......bob lacey in 1977 s-o matic baseball was your guy
I can point anyone who's interested to the (I'm not making this up) national tournament circuit which to best of my knowledge is close to it's 20th year
Last year's circuit featured live SOM tournaments (using previous season player cards) in 25+ cities with a progressive ranking system setting up a year end tourney for fairly decent money (a couple thousand)
I was a participant in said tourneys during early 1990s but bowed out after relocating to Florida.
