My Mafia connected "local" used to have a guy nicknamed "Ernie the Killer" who did all his collecting and legwork. I could never quite understand the nickname because he spoke very softly and was extremely polite. Ernie was a huge, dark complexed man in his mid 40's with black but graying hair, stubble beard, and what I'll never forget most about Ernie was the tattoo he had on the front of his throat that said "Keep Smiling". The tattoo was a homemade- looking job, but you couldn't help but see it when you spoke to him. It was even more noticeable because of the thick gold chain with the biggest Itlian horn I'd ever seen that hung off it. He also usually wore a white silk shirt that was always opened 3 or 4 buttons around his bull neck. He never said much, and as I said was soft -spoken and always left as quickly as he arrived.
Ernie long ago was found in the trunk of a car at the airport, and I long ago stopped playing with the local guys. If the new internet law is passed ---I suppose we'll see plenty of Ernies's back in full swing again and we can thank our politicians for that.
