Police raided a massage parlor on Adrian's west side Monday night and arrested two women on prostitution charges.
The raid at Spa Misty, 4600 W. U.S. 223, was conducted following a two-month investigation by the OMNI Team 3 drug enforcement unit, according to a news release posted to the Adrian Police Department's Facebook page. Officers executed a search warrant at the business at 8 p.m. and seized evidence consistent with suspected illegal prostitution.
Police lodged the two suspects at the Lenawee County Jail pending authorization of prostitution-related charges by the Lenawee County Prosecutor's Office, police said. Additional charges may be filed.
"There hasn't been anything more than misdemeanors at this point," said Prosecutor Burke Castleberry. "There's more investigating going on."
Decisions on authorizing more serious charges will be made as evidence is gathered and analyzed, Castleberry said. Investigators have to look at all the information turned up since a search warrant was executed at the business.
Only two women who were in the building at the time of the search, he said.
Lenawee County Jail records identified the suspects as Tuk Tan Christner, 48, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Myong Suk Chong, 57. Chong's address was listed as the business's address. They remained in jail after bonds of $100,000 each were set Tuesday in Lenawee County District Court.
Castleberry said it has not yet been determined if any other women were working at the business or if anyone else was involved in prostitution.
"We do not believe that these two people own the business," he said.
Castleberry said there was significant traffic at the business.
"We've had the place under surveillance," he said.
Castleberry would not comment on whether records were found that identify customers.
"I can't divulge that yet," he said.
An Internet search yielded reviews of Spa Misty going back more than a year that describe in general terms sexual favors being performed in exchange for money.
Online ads describe the business as an Asian massage parlor. Its website,
istellar.wix.com/spamisty, describes its philosophy as being "all about bringing you rejuvenation, relaxation and joy. We are here to help you relieve stress and body aches that have accumulate (sic) throughout your tough work week. Our beautiful and friendly staff is here to address your needs."
OMNI Team 3 was assisted by the Lenawee County Sheriff's Department, the Madison Township Police Department, the Adrian Police Department, the Raisin Township Police Department and the federal Department of Homeland Security.
OMNI Team 3 is a multi-jurisdictional taskforce for Lenawee and Hillsdale counties. The team is comprised of officers from the Adrian Police
Department, the Lenawee County Sheriff's Department, the Raisin Township Police Department and the Michigan State Police.
